Can anyone give a shorter TL;DR on what PHP/MySQL programmers need to do to be safe? I've been programming PHP for about **13 years** and never had any issues, but I assume I will run in to some at some point.
I just leave my MySQL tables on the default: latin1_swedish_ci. Should I be using something else?

@webarto I did, but only used them, not really dipped into their code. (The user class relies on template only if there is an error message to distribute.) But I am having the code refactored heavily.
I understand, but like I said, there are lots of them, and even if 0.5% is good, that is still a lot more than there are developers, let's say in Latvia (all of this are assumptions). Companies turn to India because of cheaper hourly rate of developers... but that is worth for all outsourcing businesses.
@DanielsPitkevičs You don't have to look at them as competition, if you work in company in Latvia, it is unlikely that company would pay someone from India to get them to Latvia... India is just an example, it can be applied to all "other" countries...
@webarto But if I travel to other country then it can be more difficult. But ok. I was just curious - in freelancer.com almost all of who bid on projects are from India.

@Sem think of it this way : if you send a POST request to a website , and you expect a html response , then you have to do a redirect. That's just how things are done. But if you send the same POST request via XHR and expect a json response, then there is no redirect required. This puts the action of redirecting squarely in the territory of presentation logic.
Well, if you need more control, switch the library and embrace unicode. E.g. take the intl extension it's based on the CLDR from the unicode consortium and it is aware about the different transliteration variants. Different to iconv you can specify them non-globally.

@tereško Well, I guess that's a situation I haven't faced before. However I do think the POST via XHR can be identified in time, choosing to redirect or not.
@tereško Even though your saying you have a valid reason to place redirects in a view it still feels weird for me to place it there. They're just there to present the results in a nice container...
@Event_Horizon problem is that they usually replace model layer with collection of ORM instances , replace view with a template and then wonder , why there is all this stuff in (what was supposed to be) controller .

@webarto Basically they want a developer slicing images and placing them in an opensource CMS, while making social media plugins for it (even though downloadable) in symfony with a joystick. A true developer nightmare.
I've got this stupid situation where someone is supposed to copy & paste content from "the old system" into the "new one". Basically, it's made up of the content render on the left and a wysiwyg on the right.
The problem is that the content from the older system might be slightly malformed (eg, missing an ending div and all)
yes, it tries to fix it, valid HTML loads faster because there is nothing to fix, but render... @Christian is it internal software? if SEO doesn't matter, go with iframe.. or you could try to fix HTML with something...
