Python's GC only works well when there are no cycles.

@Lalaland Technically, reference counting is a form of garbage collection (but it's not tracing collection). In the other direction, "real" tracing garbage collection is essentially obsolete, long-since replaced by scavenging.

While, OTOH, "tracing" GCs is what is still generally being used for GC'd languages.
