The OP doesn't really seem to be advocating that SE pays everyone, just bringing attention to the fact that legally they may have to, and should take steps to protect themselves

I doubt if I case was brought it would go anywhere

that would establish that every moderator on the internet would legally be entitled to pay

reddit etc

The law in the question is specific to New York, which is where SE is based, so no, it would not affect the entire internet
