Is there some long term career advantage to filing a lot of patents on applications of a technology? I feel I'd get fucked by the cost to keep the patents alive.

But given that my provisional patents went through, I think I can pretty much patent anything?

You have the right idea. What you're missing is that if you want to write the reversed lines, you need to either write them inside the loop or store them for after. You are doing neither of these things. Currently what happens is you overwrite line every loop. And whatever is left in that str...

im always conflicted on these answers. On the one hand, it's a good answer. On the other, they just did OP's homework.

Well for example, on duplicate questions I'd rather the answer be added to the original than the duplicate (and frankly most of the time the answers on duplicates dont bring anything that wasnt present in the answers on the original)

And in this case, it might be worthwhile in the short term for OP but its a case of "give someone a fish" vs "teach them how to fish"

the C++ will influence them to appreciate your fish and buy it, although they would probably know how to fish, they would refuse to because of C++ overall complexity

@Borgleader It's often a case of "Teach someone how to catch, cook and eat the fish" (by example)

I don't discredit the answer because it shows how to properly prepare the fish after catching

In fact, I don't like posting an answer if it doesn't show me eating the fish in various dishes. A minimal answer contains at least 1 live demo for me. And frequently, 3 competing alternatives.

@Borgleader When you flag for merging, use a custom flag and ask for a reverse merge. Thinking about it, a Q&A site should be implemented as a bunch of git repos with an index.

What would you consider a good site to learn C++? I already have a good grasp at Java and basic knowledge on C, so it's not about learning what a variable is. Rather gaining specifics of C++.

Maybe with some advanced topics and examples.

once you've got a project you could check Arne Mertz Simplify C++! which has plenty of small, easy to understand and quite relevant articles, but it's better to have a project first :p

That's probably the best: start a humble yet interesting project, solve problems, search the internet to see whether there are better ways to solve the problem, read articles, try to apply stuff you've read to your code when it makes sense, etc...
