Well we have many different "schools" here, and only "top" level of education can be called "univeristy" (it's also 5+ years and ends with masters degree). Then you have "hbo" (lit. higher job education), but they call themselves "univeristy" too (they use english term to prevent using the protected term);
For computer science it's the difference between a job where you program (hbo). Or where you work as advisor to companies about how they should do it/work as researcher (university).

I have also (sadly) not ever found a single good converter from CAD to meshmodels :/. They always introduce artifacts/inaccuracies when I use a smoothed surface. (And connect two surfaces together using the same function to generate the surface)

@KendallFrey As I said in the industry 3d models are just never used. The only 3d modelling is done to "view" the cad model (and this is also done inside catia, as it produces much better lightning than any other software I found - takes a few hours to calculate though)- but that's similar to how an svg is rasterized when viewing on the screen.
