in your experience, which of these scripted languages is easier to install in windows? (node.js/npm, python/pip, perl/cpan, ruby/rubygems, other?)

definitely not ruby, which requires the ruby-devkit setup if you want to compile native extensions

You can manipulate files on Windows? Doesn't the security prevent this?

Yeah incredibile how you can spend hours on a problems that someone else solves in 5 min.

And for understanding PNG, I somehow doubt any programming language can help you with that. I'm afraid you have to understand yourself what they are :-)

You can do pretty much anything on Windows, it just depends on what your security settings are

2. with user tomcat:

3. conf.d in tomcat
JAVA_OPTS="-Djava.awt.headless=true -Xmx2500m"
DISPLAY=:0

you had to install a framebuffer?

For most stuff I did on Windows, I get 10 dialogs like "Are you sure?" - yes "Really sure?" - Yes "I mean, renaming the file means the name changes." - YES "Don't you want to reconsider this?" - NO "Ok, last change. Really rename?" - <I give up and boot into Linux>

Thanks for your help it but me on right track, then I just need a guy with some more linux experience then me, to set all the correct values in config files

@Braiam Yeah in the end I did that, I had problems with display, since the lib takes "screenshot" of the 3d rendering of graph..

@Olaf Linux assumes you know what you're doing; Windows assumes you don't :p

@Tunaki it was the only lib in java that I found that was able to do 3d graph, you know of any other?

My guess is that at least one of the parameters is wrong

Jzy3d would be what I'd have used as well

renaming a file extension, however, does pop up a warning asking if you're sure, though

but you can supersede that easily with code

@JanDvorak I mean one asking if I'm sure when I rename a file

@Tunaki Yeah it's powerful, but relies on OpenGL2 and takes "screenshot", so somehow you need a display.

@TylerH You confuse filename and basename. Filename includes all. But what do I tell for an OS which uses part of the filename to detect the file-type. :-)

umm... dunno, Unix & Linux seems to have some questions

@JanDvorak Unix does not rely on the extension to detect the file type. KDE does use the extension as first indicator for the filemanager, but when you start a program it inspects the contents.

Try the file command.

where I can find a translation of these 'shortcuts'? sd f are arabic to me.

@Olaf tar and gz I think are the only tools that explicitly need the extension (but of course, you can force them into doing otherwise, as both can read the stdin)
