@MagicMiles A time without a timezone is undefined. Either use a specific timezone in the date string that you are using to create the date, or use a data formatter configured with the timezone that it will use to interpret the time. An NSDate is a specific point in time; known as clock time. The actual time in any particular place is dependent on the time zone; known as wall time. i.e. the actual time shown on the clock on your wall.

As far is NSDate is concerned. 1pm GMT is the same as 2pm BST (British Summer Time). But the actual time is something like 2013-10-22 13:00:00 +0000

Not just a time, but a date as well. Which is translated from the actual number of seconds elapsed since some well-defined reference date.

@MagicMiles Try creating the date and time from the inputs using NSDateComponents. developer.apple.com/library/ios/documentation/cocoa/Conceptual/… It's a bit more complicated than just using a date formatter, but it's the proper way to do it.

The look at the log output - I didn't put anything in the actual view, but it shows how to convert a date and time with a time zone, and also displays the difference between clock time and wall time.

Since I'm in London: this is my output

@Abizern just trying to wrap my head around what you did....what it looks like is that you passed the values into 2 procedures, one that reformats it, and another that resets it as date and time values.

Ah. The main think is the method that returns the datetime. The two NSLogs are just showing the difference between clock and wall times.

There is no resetting of the Date. Rememeber the date and time I'm passing in is 13:03 today at CET. That represents an actual point in time, which is the first log. The second line shows that to get a sensible date out of it for a particular location, you need to format the output with a timezone. But the underlying NSDate object is still the same.

I have written an iOS application under iOS 6 (now 7), and have been trying to wrap my head around how I will get my app to post to a facebook group wall. My app is using Parse as the backend, and I've installed the FB SDK which I a requirement of running Parse.

My question is does anyone know of a walk thru, step by step, tutorial on HOW one would go about doing this ? The Test 'Scrumptious' App is about as helpful on this topic as a submarine with a screen door for a hatch.

@PrasadG Why are you doing this? ARC manages Objective-C objects, not what you malloc, and you rarely have to malloc memory in Cocoa.

If you're using the tags of view to get information from them, then you're doing it wrong IMHO. You've already got a custom cell so you already have access to the subviews if you set them as IBOutlets.
