I had the exact same thoughts when I read the question until I found the change mentioned in the release notes

@SardarUsama Ah, that’s why I couldn’t find it. Thanks for clarifying! Honestly, I find this weird. It’s weird that there’s a plotting function in a toolbox that does essentially the same thing as a standard function. And it’s weird that it uses a non-standard color scheme.

oh you have to use global on the inside and on the outside of the function definition

too bad you can't use nested functions in a script in octave, you have to use a file

@flawr well, there’s evalin('caller'), but you probably want to avoid that. I also don’t know what that does in a function handle used in a different context.
