@flawr Because AM means before noon, PM means after noon. 11:59 am is one minute to noon. 12:01 pm is one minute after noon. But 12:00 is noon, so it can’t be called AM nor PM. And there is no one standard for how to label it.

12:55 am is the time when the 12-hour clock marks 12:55, and it is after midnight and before noon.

I think I always read AM as "hours passed since midnight"

so 12:55 AM would have been in the afternoon with this logic

arguably 00:15 AM and 12:15 PM would be a lot saner at least to 24-hour people

but then the AM/PM sides would be asymmetric

I'd probably still find 00:15 PM less confusing than 12:15 AM
