I haven't been able to find a simple to use "Report a typo" form for the Guardian, as most other news agencies have. Just lists and lists of addresses to contact the author, their editorial division etc

Not sure; ETH paid for a license, so that's what we use.

It is actually quite a decent software

At this point it's about the only video conferencing software that I know of that is properly cross-platform. Skype is Microsoft sh*t and doesn't work via Ubuntu, you can use Chromium but sound is broken in that case. Jitsi only works in Chrome, with "support for chromium", but that doesn't work very well either.

How good is it for classroom teaching? Zoom has a nice feature to share screens, create "breakout rooms" (divide the class into separate groups) etc, which make it rather suited for teaching

I think the people who teach use it too

but the only reason we use it is because UCL pays for it, so I suspect they pay for it for the teaching part, not us

I don't get why Zoom doesn't allow large, paying institutions to use the Zoom code and infrastructure on their internal servers. AFAIK the ETH pays Microsoft to use Outlook for email, and that is a completely contained environment on their own servers

Screen sharing works, but limited on non-windows. Can't divide class into smaller groups, you have to create separate channels for that, or just ensure that other people don't join a meeting for fewer people, and I suspect you can only have one meeting in one channel at a time. Never tested this latter one, though

@AndrasDeak you can have multiple meetings because people suck and don't join the correct meeting (I have experienced this)

WRT screen sharing, Zoom has an interesting feature that you can choose whether to share your screen (and which, in case of multiple physical screens), or just a single active window (e.g. your presentation)

It also blurs your background if you want, replaces it by an image of your choice, and automatically follows your face if you move on screen XD

For Skype I experienced that you can't natively install it on Ubuntu. WebSkype works only on Microsoft crap or Chrome, and when running it on Chromium on Ubuntu I could at least open it and chat, but the calling-function was broken

@AnderBiguri Zoom can do that, but only on Windows/MAC with large enough processors

@AndrasDeak The limitation that Zoom mentions in their feature description is that for Linux you need a "physical green screen", i.e. the actual piece of cloth behind you. Clicking the "Enhance my appearance" button, or whatever it's called, does absolutely zip on my PC

That's a good improvement. Zoom had 90% "Europe" storage, and 10% US/Aus, and that for data in Switzerland
