@TaylorS In the past, you could just clone the executable to the temp folder, run that and exit the main executable, then replace it from the temp folder. It doesn't work nowadays without significant costs. That's because Windows (as well as Mac) mark new writes to an executable as 'untrusted', so it's become impossible to run the executable until explicitly allowed by the user. The way around this is code signing.

take it as follows. Let's say you have this opinion and I have this other opposite one. I can react you you speaking your mind aloud in 2 different ways:
- I politely disagree for these reasons.
- Go F yourself with your opinions that nobody asked.

SO is usually regarded as the latter, because most people will just flag your question, mostly as too broad, too specific, or opinion-based when it's clearly not.

And many people don't even say why

Well that's just an example.

The format of SO doesn't work. Besides the constant elitism, the reward-cycle consists of up-votes on either question/answer. The quality of the question/answer doesn't matter; the number of votes do. As a result, difficult questions are worth nothing. Most people don't understand, so no upvotes. Answering one is equally worthless, because you MIGHT get one upvote. The entire system is tailored to asking simple questions and providing simple solutions. But that's just my opinion ofc.

Even if we don't take into consideration that some peoples' times are more valuable than others, and assume they are all equal, expecting someone to google for you, search for you, debug for you (and not just you, the other 500 people asking questions that one person is seeing that day), is not only unreasonable, but rude.

@MadaraUchiha Right I agree with that. However a very straightforward question can be met with either of those flags, and subsequently closed for this reason. I've seen many people who basically hunt for questions, flag them, and post on chat so everyone else can flag all at once.

And if you get there, the question is pretty much OK

New users don't know how to ask a proper question, it's a skill, and a difficult one. People's minds are constantly being blown when I tell them that they need to provide, in advance, the actual behavior, the expected behavior, your attempts, and why those didn't work.

Whatever Lord Madara says is true otherwise be ready to be hit by the meteors!

So, the logical conclusion for me always was that the asking experience needed to become better. Stack Overflow is in the business of asking questions and answering them. I expected that the asking form would somehow detect missing pieces and instruct you to fill them, help you get feedback for your questions early, before they reach the general public, etc.

@MadaraUchiha Right, that's another problem, you can't expect people to browse through several different iterations of the same sentence worded differently for the search engine to actually find the results you want. People search often in broken English, they can't find an answer, and that leads them here to ask if someone can help them see why their code doesn't work.

I need to learn more how to better search on google

A few days ago I asked in the Ubuntu stack how to troubleshoot a broken network connection. I don't have any Linux expertise, aside from the basic commands that I learned about 3 years ago, nobody uses Linux in the environment I work, so I expect people would understand that.

They changed a lot of stuff and networking is handled differently from Ubuntu 18.04 so I'm clueless what to do. My question was first met with a comment saying the question is blocked due to lack of information, even though I explained everything step by step with screenshots. 10 days later someone added another comment asked for some detail, I couldn't be bothered at that moment because I was already on something else. This person downvoted the next day due to "inactivity".

What's tricky is when there's a well known problem with very similar conditions, except your problem differs slightly to make all the well known problem solutions worthless..

finding a solution in this case can be quite difficult

So as you can guess I apologyzed, deleted the question because I simply can't wait for 2 weeks and answer people on demand on an issue that blocked me and I set aside in order to do other stuff, only to be met by this.

@Neil That's an excellent case for posting a question, linking that other question and saying exactly where your problem differs and how it voids the other answer.

"It is rude to waste people's time, they read your question and you ignore them, so get downvoted". Seriously, I will simply ask someone else. To me it looks like the other person is the rude one

We do not (generally speaking) downvote users, we downvote questions/answers.

downvoting an inactive question is silly

Downvoting question directly affects the user. Even more so, if you answer a question that then gets flagged and removed you take a penalty as well.

Users are not up for voting or judgement, it's the posts that are.

Q: Confusion Regarding Constructor Chaining in Java

From what I understand about Constructor Chaining is that Whenever we create an object of child class (or call child class constructor) a call to default constructor of parent class is automatically made first ONLY IF our child constructor does not happen to call another constructor ...

But I think it's more like a "I'll suspend my downvote on this relatively crappy question until OP answers if it's in, like, a few minutes"

And when OP doesn't answer, they just shrug, downvote, and move on

There are parts of the system that are awkward or outright bad, don't get me wrong.

That one or two downvoted/deleted questions are enough to effectively get you suspended for life is bad.

The problem from my perspective is that SO went too far trying to get "top quality answers" only

and that dragged in elitism, which is what killed the place.

But they didn't follow up with means to reset downvotes (or garner attention) on improvements, or a backdoor system where you can appeal if you think you're ready to try again despite not meeting the harsh criteria

The "This user is new, be nice" thing -- honestly, I view it as an insult.

So yes, telling me to do all that, but with a smile on my face too, is insulting to me.
