mmm, I can offer you a different view: that asker won't be able to remove their downvote now and they don't have much rep. Their smash-and-grab approach will catch up with them and they won't be able to ask any more. It's certainly a vindictive view, but a view none-the-less

The question shouldn't have been answered, and should have been closed. I was in the middle of explaining why the problem is not well-posed - top-level code in a class is explicitly for things that initialize the class, so they aren't intended to be run more than once - when the delete occurred. (Also, it was my downvote on the question.)

After commenting I was going to vote to close, with the intent of voting to delete if the option became available.

Also, the answer didn't get an upvote or an accept. In conclusion, I can't see any reason to take further action here. OP arguably misused the site, but in a way that causes no real damage, and is in fact less destructive than the average well-intentioned but bad question.

and, yes, there is an automated system in place to avoid people serially misusing the site in that manner.

@roganjosh yah, that's a valid point. I'm just upset that they deleted when the other person spent some time answering their question.

I can definitely see your reasoning there, but they have enough rep to know what they're in for by answering this kind of thing

@Code-Apprentice No, I don't think you should do that at all. If you're not inclined to upvote for quality then you definitely don't do it to just preserve the time taken for the post.

The person could be crapping all over the site with simple answers. They chose to answer - tough luck the OP deleted. We all face that possibility, regardless of how thought-out the answer may be

I probably should give up on answering SO questions. So many show so little effort and don't provide enough information to actually answer anyway.

If I'm honest (and thus, tempting fate, obviously) I'm surprised that there's been a decline in the amount of RO stuff I've had to do since being given the position and the way that the main site goes with the python tag. I thought things would be getting worse, but they have got easier

@KarlKnechtel I noticed the same thing on recent answered question on the python tag. Some of them are 9 months old but, they still don't have an accepted (and based on that, seems like the OP didn't thought of upvoting any of the answer either.)

@PM2Ring that's also why I love comments on SO/SE. They offer more insight, a lot of the times. Sometimes they offer so much context, they might aswell be their own answer (they aren't always sadly). The saddest thing though is when mods delete comments in mass without caring in keeping context of the post, etc

this doesn't happen too much on SO, but it happen wayyy too much on SE sites

It's also useless to bring it up because 1. only diamonds moderator can see deleted comments, so unless you saved them before they were deleted, you don't have much proof or leverage to make them undelete them (if that's even possible?). 2. there a rule of thumb on SO/SE (especially on SE) where mods say "comments aren't long-lived"...which is fine, but :/

@NordineLotfi Comments are supposed to be temporary. If they contain important information, then that info should be incorporated into an actual answer. On most sites, an exception is made for comments that are basically links with a small amount of explanation. On Physics.SE, even the mods post such comments quite frequently.

Comments on the question should guide the OP to improving the question, and can be deleted once the OP responds appropriately. Unfortunately, many OPs don't respond by editing the question, they reply in a comment. In that situation, it can be useful to edit the OP's comments into the question if the OP won't do it themself.

I sometimes post comments that are intended to clarify the question both for the OP and to help guide potential answerers. We shouldn't post actual answers in comments, but helpful hints are acceptable.

@Code-Apprentice That's not a great question, but I disgree that it's not worth answering. The OP is clearly confused about Python syntax, and how to use Python classes, and IMHO it's valid to write an answer that shows how to attack that task in a more Pythonic way.

The OP has been a member for almost 2½ years, but they only have 1 undeleted question (and no answers). Maybe they normally delete their low-quality questions just don't understand how to use the site. From their comments, they seem to be grateful for the help.

OTOH, we get tons of OPs who delete their question once it's answered because they're homework cheats, and they want to hide the evidence. The mods across the network take a very dim view of such behaviour.

Of course, if the homework question is rubbish, it shouldn't be answered in the first place. But if the question is of sufficient quality and gets self-deleted after being answered, then feel free to raise a custom mod flag on it &/or mention it here.

FWIW, SO has a fairly low bar for homework questions. Math.SE & Physics.SE are much stricter on which homework-like questions are acceptable.

It was fairly understandable. The reported exception is a SyntaxError, after all. But then, one of the rollbacks was from OP. The problem is clearly caused by the input (in 2.x), not by code indentation (we can tell from the stack trace). (Also, I checked again and there were only two rollbacks, one by OP and one a self-rollback. So I greatly overstated it)

anyway, I fixed it again, added notes as appropriate, and did other cleanup.

Understood. It's just a bit odd when the OP rolls back an edit that fixes the indentation they lost when pasting their code to SO.

OTOH, we do have a policy of not editing the mistakes out of question code. But it's different when it's obvious from the stacktrace that the OP's real code must've been indented correctly.

@PM2Ring Thanks for the comments. I agree with pretty much all of what you said. I get deleting questions to hide cheating, and the (hopefully) response to mitigate this. I don't get deleting questions when trying to learn. I guess people are afraid that future employers will see it? IDK...I never cared about that when I started at SO. And by now it would require an AI bot to sort through my hundreds of posts to find the really dumb ones.

Hello, I am trying to execute GET request using requests module. URL is something like this with query param - abc.com?name="your name / my name". I get this error for the same- "Message":"The requested resource does not support http method \'GET\'."

Do I need the escape this forward slash in query param?

that's not how you escape URLs

It doesn't matter about escaping - if the route only accepts POST requests, that's both easy to set up on the server side and would be reflected to the client

you can just replace the slash with %2F if that's the only special character, but the spaces probably also need to be %20

but it still seems weird that it filters http methods by quote parameters, are you sure you're hitting the same host at the same port?
