sooo here's an odd question. If you were doing image manipulation on a web browser, would you do the image manipulation completely on the back end, or just use javascript to manipulate the image then save it to the back end?

@corvid, I would do it in the backend only if the processing is so complex I need to use special libraries (like Machine Learning stuff) or if it takes too long and I don't want to keep the user waiting while the frontend processes the image. Otherwise it is better to keep load off your servers, so you can scale as much as you want.

It seems like the V8 engine at least is pretty fast, and with WebGL it is feasible to do some interesting analysis and math on a 2-dimensional image... just not sure how a 6000x6000 resolution image will do with it

Pycharm is good, I use iPython Notebook for quick testing and then copy over to Sublime Text

but I am more of a PyData guy, for Webdev I use only Pycharm

sign arises naturally when you want to use the abs() function. I think nonzero(x) is often expressed mathematically via indicator functions.

and abs() is used to define distances, and everyone loves distances :)
