It troubles me a bit that the accepted answer here is to use unsafe code.

which does just what you want. step through each lint and it's suggested replacement, press a key to accept or decline

@oli_obk-ker Its truthfulness is dubious, but it's true in safe Rust.
@oli_obk-ker Not exactly — I want to say "apply all fixes for the lint foo" and then I will manually perform a cargo test and a git diff — can it do that?

Fun fact: Ada (the standard when comparing languages for safety critical code) does not have a notion of thread safety. Because, and I quote from this years Ada Europe conference, "No developer in their right mind would use a shared variable from multiple threads". My lack of words is undescribable

@oli_obk-ker Also, rustfix needs to become part of clippy (and until y'all are comfortable with that, should at least be linked from clippy!)

@Shepmaster we have no solution for that yet, open issues for both, but on the rustfix repo pls, we'll keep them separate for now

I wonder if we can make it so the TODO file knows which lints it has reported where, so if you add a new case of the lint in the same file, it'll still figure it out
line numbers aren't sufficient, but it might work with some structural information
although that might break on a refactoring
@oli_obk-ker that would be super fancy. I'm generally happy "per file", but I wonder if you could do "per type"
@Shepmaster I think we can generate a "path" like Foo::bar if the lint occurs in impl Foo { fn bar() { /*here*/ } }
and then complain if any new entries show up. Entries disappearing would just remove them from the TODO file
You'd still see it in git, b/c lines go away, but that's the point, right?

#[allow(...)] is for when you want to actually not address the lint
you want to address the lint, but not now

And seriously, what is it with Rust and parsers
why the strong correlation
is it because we are so early that there aren't good enough parsers out there?
