i totally thought i'd get more work done today, but then i remembered writing javascript for react stuff doesn't interest me, so i rewatched season 3 of 'halt and catch fire' and played team fortress 2 for hours. total work done ~30 minutes.

Whenever I don't get enough sleep (as I didn't this week) my lazy immune system lets me down and I get some virus. Nothing to be done for it but to make better rest-related decisions.

Just tell your users you're courageous enough to use more of their screen, and it's their fault if they don't want to zoom.

testing showed that if you just prompt for location, people will hit "deny" or dismiss. give them agency in the location setting choice, and the accept rate goes steeply up

Same. Part of it is that the prompt for "HEY RANDOM SITE WANTS YOUR SPECIFIC LOCATION +/- 3 METER ACCURACY. COOL?" happens before you get a chance to even say hi to the user

browser geolocation sucks from a developer and user perspective. the modal for "site wants your location" looks like a normal message bar that users dismiss and clearing the setting is non-obvious to even power users

It would be nice if there was a "yes, but not exact" because that's what most applications need, but the ask is basically "let an arbitrary website know where you sleep"
