@mickmackusa While I understand your curiosity, the basic issue is something that's been addressed/discussed many times in here, every time someone has wanted to have their thing taken care of. We're not a voting ring. We're not here to "take care" of things for the people who participate here. SOCVR takes very seriously even having the appearance of impropriety. A large number of the rules that we have are all focused on making it such that we're not doing such things.

@Makyen The point of SOCVR is to help clean up the system. My scenario is to clean up the system where I am the author of the unwanted content. By expressly authorising the destruction of my own post, there is no way for anyone to be upset. I don't yet see how this would be any different from deleting other content.

Quite strange thing: yesterday a new user asked a question without any details and a screenshot of an error. Now they updated it with code and error as text and submitted it to review, and an hour later, an experienced user (12 yrs, 5.8k rep) asked a question with identical text.

@Cristik it doesn't make any sense. Why would an experienced user create a fake account and pretend to be a noob? Or why would an experienced user copy from a noob. Either way, it does not make any sense.

@jps Perhaps the experienced user is a colleague or friend? They might (erroneously) believe that the Q would get a better reception because of their higher rep.

@mickmackusa I'd argue it's more shameful to avoid deletion of content you genuinely think ought to be deleted just to avoid earning a badge for self-deletion. I don't know of a single instance where having that badge reflected poorly on someone, or where someone criticized another user for having that badge.

(Assuming you mean the "Peer Pressure" badge and not the meritorious badge "Disciplined")

@TylerH I have the peer pressure badge, you have the peer pressure badge, even some of the site moderators have the peer pressure badge. Everyone makes mistakes. Nothing to be ashamed of. Even one the top users of the site has that badge.

I don't know C++ so I will abstain, but I don't know if it's worth reopening. There is another question on this already: stackoverflow.com/questions/32971979/toupper-tolower?rq=1 and this one has low views and no activity for like 8 years

@TylerH The unclosed one has a lot of unnecessary information, whereas the closed one is more straight to the point.

I dunno, the question seems pretty clear; it's even the first sentence. "How do I use toupper and tolower in C?" And the top answer is two sentences, one of which is basically "write #include <ctype.h>.

It's far more likely that this question provides more use than the one that's closed, given the score and (current) closed status of the one in the request

I don't feel like we need to reopen stackoverflow.com/questions/33454894/…. If we do it would just be closed as a dupe of stackoverflow.com/questions/32971979/toupper-tolower and that source is higher rated so it shows up in searches more

We could ask that stackoverflow.com/questions/33454894/… gets merged into stackoverflow.com/questions/32971979/toupper-tolower if we feel the answer there is worth keeping.

@TylerH I think it is a fair argument to consider me weak for not deleting a post which has a score <= -3. It's all about perspective. I simply have no appetite for the Peer Pressure badge and, for me, it is directly interfering with the very thing that it was designed to promote.

If my post would have received a justifying comment with any of the 3 downvotes, I would have been able to take corrective action on my correct and demonstrated answer. I could only assume the votes were retaliatory. Only RyanM had the courage to leave a comment. So I took the advice, decided to abandon the original answer, and posted a new answer.

This is why I will always be in favor of any new feature which incentivizes/promotes leaving a comment with a downvote.

I'd happily support a feature that promotes leaving constructive comments, but not one that doesn't do that until you've cast a downvote

@KevinB It's (perhaps) interesting that, when 'they' were thinking about allowing downvotes for 1-rep users, they were also thinking about an obligatory, "Why are you downvoting this post?" popup.

... but that whole experiment is now on hold, so we'll never really know.
