I understand your desire to post your messages in a room that has a lot of recent traffic, but you should resist that desire. In most rooms, people tend to react negatively, sometimes very negatively, when an unknown person comes in and asks about something that's not on-topic for the room, particularly if it's quite a bit off-topic. Prior to posting in any room, I strongly recommend you read the room's description and any FAQ or other information page(s) linked from the description.

Overall, this isn't the right room for what you're asking about. You might want to try looking at the list of rooms on Stack Overflow Chat, and/or the list of rooms on Stack Exchange Chat. Those pages have a search function, which might help you find a room that's appropriate for what you want.

So you know, I'm going to move your messages into a room we use for messages which don't fit here in this room, SOCVR. The room I'm moving your messages to is called SOCVR /dev/null. Even though the system will say you are invited into that room, I'm not actually inviting you to talk there. You won't be able to talk there. Unfortunately, it's the system that erroneously issues that "invitation" when your messages are moved and there's nothing I can do to prevent that.

I think we've seen this happen before, where Community fails to actually delete a post. I vaguely recall a bug report.

Are some questions auto-protected? E.g. on that ^ spam report there are 3 deleted answers by new users, one spam, 2 mod deleted

I moved the bug report back to status-review, given that Yaakov's reason for declining it doesn't apply and that reports of new occurrences were requested.

@Adriaan I believe it's something like 3 of either deleted posts by new users or red-flag deletions, with red-flag deletions of posts by new users counting as 2.

Should I flag a user for moderator attention if they are persistently and intentionally breaking the simple Q&A design by posting answers as comments? This is a veteran who knows how the site works. This is role modelling bad behavior. I guess I am asking if it will be "helpful" to cry foul or if I just need to quietly suffer while they continue to do the wrong thing.

It's unbelievable what kind of mistakes people do when they are learning

@Dharman In college we had to make a lamp for an art class. Prof handed out lamp cord wire, a plug, a socket and a light bulb. The next week three students had wrecked their sockets with some of the craziest (and dangerous) ways they had tried to wire the thing up

One student meticulously stripped like 4" of wire and fished the two wires through the bottom of the socket

That's probably why the most important skill in our profession is logical thinking.

You don't need to know math, physics or anything like that.

@Dharman Yeah, the saddest experience I ever had with formal programming was a Java class in highschool. The teacher just handed out books and each day our task was to copy the next program or function into some IDE and have it run without errors by the end of class.

As a tech savvy kid it was super boring for me, because I could touch type easily even then and would finish in like 15 minutes, but not be allowed to do anything else with my free time. Meanwhile after an hour many students couldn't even complete the transcription, let alone without errors, finding those errors, and fixing them

it involved going through this workbook that... effectively taught you how to use the internet.

@Dharman It was on a JS question. I don't know any more than that. I guess somehow OP thought to put it into existing Java unit test code on some Java IDE. The boolean HomePageIcons also bothers me from a code review standpoint. That's a terrible boolean name...

I considered just unlocking and letting Roomba get it, but then decided to speed the process along.

He was just there to collect an easy paycheck

He would go around to each student and have them run the code and if no errors were found, we'd get full credit

Any time we had an error he would point it out to us and have us fix it and call him back when it was fixed; points off for however many times he had to be called over that day

i think the three we had were very good

just the curriculum sucked

I mean for a student like me who was interested in programming it was useful because I could glean some knowledge about Java and programming in general, but only marginally so

@Makyen For the SD redeletion case, I've just been redeleting them from my own account rather than flagging, assuming the user is already destroyed. If the user isn't destroyed, then I'll destroy the user to redelete the post without unlocking it. If I want to keep the user but not put my name visibly on the post (trolling, for example), then I'll do through the unlock/flag dance.

Though someone seeing the SD reports did once note that they were briefly confused by "It was flagged as spam or offensive content and deleted just now by Ryan M" :-p

@HenryEcker This is consistent with my impression from looking into the issue around tags not being shown as deleted. IIRC, in the few which I looked into, when the tag was sticking around, but the tag didn't have any non-deleted posts, the posts which were causing the tag to be "stuck" were, supposedly, deleted by Community and it felt like the posts were clustered around various dates/times. However, I only noted that after having fully dealt with a few/several. I did not continue with the investigation to verify that there really was clustering.

Yeah. At least with the SEDE query there looks to be "runs" for lack of better term of failures. Then it's back on track... and then falls back off again
