@snakecharmerb Writing a docstring requires an example of the datatype that's supposed to be documented. It can't be abstract. The sketched dict docstring makes no sense at all, and the answer are naturally also wrong.

Technically, pk means primary key and id also refers to primary key, there's only one difference I could see.

Why are you posting that in here, @SunderamDubey? If you want a moderator to delete the answer because it copied yours and added nothing new, then you should raise a moderator flag on it.

@bad_coder There's an underlying issue (documenting a specific datatype) that can be done by challenging the premise of the proposed solution like Mad does, or trying to build up whatever the asker solution was. I don't think the question has a fundamental issue that needs to be closed for.

@jps "Completely unreadable" is a huge exaggeration. That can be trivially fixed with an edit. Voting to close because the formatting is imperfect seems unreasonable.

I found this automatic code prettifier with a simple Google search.

@jps If it's fixable by any user (at least easily) then not really justified. I'm pretty sure there is a formatter for VB code, so it will probably take less than a minute to make the edit if one copies -> auto format -> paste in.

For some reason, I had to first strip out blank lines with a different tool, because the formatter I found wasn't working here, despite having the "Remove Excess Line Breaks" option enabled. I've never used the formatter before, so I don't know if it is a bug in the formatter or there was something weird about the input code (like spaces that made the lines not actually blank?).

Still, I would not say more than a minute to fix.

Oh gee, look, someone actually already did this, except they posted it as an answer instead of submitting it as an edit.

Anyway... might I humbly suggest if sub-par code formatting that can be trivially fixed with an edit is a reason you're considering closing a question that you take a break from looking at questions for a bit?

Because we don't allow screenshots of code. Code must be included as text. We don't have a rule preventing questions with poorly-formatted code. (Largely because it can be trivially fixed.)

Screenshots cannot be searched - not by search engines, not even if you're on the page. They are not accessible to screen readers. You cannot copy a portion of an image. And they might not even be visible to people who don't have problems with vision - for example, the image might be blocked. That's why they are discouraged - it's not easy to do anything with them.

I did not mean to argue pro screenshot. Of course, I know the reasons and comment (and cv) accordingly on questions with screenshots almost every day.

@Braiam your argument doesn't hold with knowledge about docstrings or Python datatypes. I'm not going to elaborate more than I already did, for SMEs it's obvious the Q lacks an MRE and makes no sense without it. The OP didn't provide the types he's trying to document, so it's complete nonsense.

What the OP is aiming for is actually documenting values, not types. That's a common noob misconception, that Q has several layers of misconceptions - it's a cameleon question.

I have a question about flagging an answer for convert-to-comment (custom) or delete. Should I flag an answer with upvotes but of no value? Content is reflected in many other highly upvoted and detailed answers on same question. The Answer I am talking about is very short (12 words, out of which 5 have no value). Or in other words, when should I NOT flag for convert-to-comment (custom) or delete?

@rene : No; that is custom flag because that IS an answer in theory. So standard flag does not apply.

@AmitJoshi hmm, okay. That sounds to me as a hit and miss case, depending on the mood of Cody or any other mod handling your flag. Is the answer doing so much harm it needs to be a comment? I would personally flag an answer to be converted to a comment if the text has value but doesn't answer the question. When an answer does answer the question but poorly it is downvote territory not let's employ limited mod resources territory.

The situation @AmitJoshi describes is way too hypothetical for me to even try to weigh in with an opinion. I'd say simply that if you want a moderator to consider converting an answer to a comment, it is valid to raise a flag on the answer explicitly requesting that, but beware that the mod who handles the flag might disagree with the request.

Generally, if an old answer is borderline and not hurting anything, it might be better to leave it alone. You definitely don't want to go seeking these out. But if you come across them organically and you think the site can be improved by converting them to a comment, then most mods I know are happy to click that button.

Asking for mod-only tags to be added is a perfectly valid reason to raise a flag. It's not a lot of time/effort to determine if the tag should be added. A mod can correct me if I'm wrong, but I think such flags are fine.

@AndrasDeak--СлаваУкраїні Flagging to request or suggest that a mod-only tag be added to a question on Meta is the normal and expected way to get that to happen. Please use an "in need of moderator intervention" flag in that situation to make the request.

The flag queues for MSO and SO are separate, so moderators won't see it unless they are looking to handle flags on MSO, where they would expect to see such a flag. If we don't have the time, it's easy to just skip over a flag and leave it for later or another moderator.

The flag queue on MSO tends to stay fairly low. It's actually empty at the moment. It's the flag queue on SO which has a tendency to get large.

@miken32 I've edited the first one to just state the problem clearly, and removed the attempt (it serves no purpose, and was only added because the question was closed for needing focus). The remaining ones are all debugging questions, so they aren't any good. There is one other how-to question in the list, but it's closed for needing details/clarity

And if anyone hands in that first answer I think the teacher's going to know something is up lol
