@Adriaan Well, Joomla users have a slightly skewed vernacular about "front end" / "back end" of the CMS. The question is asking how to use the CMS. I recommend migrating it to JSE. I think it is most suitable there and not very useful anywhere else. One way to solve the problem though, is a programmatical solution.

Scenario: some post is closed as a typo, and it is indeed, however the focus is on a rather minor feature, the title nicely summarizes the problem, those who stumble upon this minor feature may have the same typo issue and the resolving answer is decently written

@VLAZ it's not common by any means, that for sure. But it may arise if you happen to use such minor feature

Then maybe make a judgement call. Typo closure is for stuff that isn't useful to future visitors. E.g., a syntax error because of mismatched brackets. It's clear but no real solution to it other than "make sure your brackets are correct". And the mismatch can sometimes happen because you have an errant semicolon, or a comma or other punctuator in the code. So...not very useful.

@tripleee One of the articles is from 1980. So, 40 years ago. Assuming the article was written when she was around 20, then she must be 60 nowadays.

@tripleee As do a lot of tags... but more "generic" ones seem to be disproportionately affected. Because users go "Yes, I do have a dataset, let's tag it" even if it's not relevant. Same with JSON, or CSV, or even stuff like Web or Frontend. A loop in JS doesn't work, tagged web frontend

And I just checked - some user went and added the frontend tag to the question "Merge/flatten an array of arrays". I've removed it. I'll check the tag usages as I suspect a lot of them are wrong.

To be honest, I'm not even sure what would be on topic on it but I'm certain pure JS code isn't.

Can we do something about this question? It asks about what a particular switch of a the set batch command does but then tacks on two unrelated questions for "bonus points". I thought of editing them out but then that would partially invalidate one of the answers which tackled them.

@VLAZ You're talking about the accepted answer? Why not edit the answer to address the bonus points as "And by the way, you can do this..."? Might be as easy as switching the first two paragraphs. Then edit the question.

@Calculuswhiz If I were to edit the question to remove the bonus questions, then "/L in for /L generates a List of numbers." would be completely useless in the answer. And the description about ping would be out of place. I mean, it can probably serve as an example of how you get information but would seem odd to use ping when the question seems to only ask about set

At the same time, replacing the ping information with the one for set would be a bit too much - the help information is 173 lines long.

So, either needs to be removed, so the answer would say "You can use set /?" without showing the output or the output needs to be cut down to example size.

@jps TBH, I prefer it that way. I watch a few tags and sometimes I wonder why something showed up with a highlight background. I was thinking of writing a userscript to add highlighting to the matching tag but...well, I don't really use the watched tags enough. And in high contrast mode, there was no information for them anyway.

Although, I'd agree that maybe the colour for the highlighted tag might be tweaked.

And I'd probably still want the background to be highlighted and the tag.

@VLAZ there we are at subtle hints again ;) The different shades of grey in the background have been a subtle hint about watched tags.

@jps I'm pretty sure me or somebody else flagged the lack of contrast in the high contrast mode there. If SE wanted to do something about it, they would have. I occasionally catch glimpses of slightly different backgrounds but rarely. Depends on my position and the lighting in the room at the time. Essentially, I don't see a difference.

What SE decided to go with is underline all sort of other useless stuff which gives me nausea and, again, makes it so I literally see less clearly. In high contrast mode. It's I guess really important to underline the x button since it's a link.

@VLAZ I would never have noticed the X without it being underlined ;) Maybe in the next step they can make the UI a bit more customizable (beyond mode setting). It's certainly not easy to cater for all kind of tastes, devices and environments.

I feel like the high contrast mode was more or less abandoned soon after it was released. They just added the terrible underlines everywhere which was the last update. And they went with more or less "W3C recommends undelining links, so we did it" as an explanation. But I don't think anybody verified they did it correctly at all. Even after I posted the bug report.

more than likely they abandoned working on it because they're effectively going through their entire UI and redesigning it for mobile.

@KevinB I doubt that's the reason or what they are waiting for. These changes don't address the primary underlying issues that dark mode isn't as good as they would like when using the UI colors which have been selected for the various sites where they are different.

@tripleee More by chance. I guess smokey sweeps periodically, so this post was caught very early after it was posted. Like 20 seconds or something. It was gone within another 10. I clicked the link as it was potsted here, page loaded and then the post disappeared.

generally from Smokey's perspective the timer starts when the post is picked up by Smokey and then if it gets deleted quickly enough it won't be reported here

the biggest latency factor is probably Smokey itself because the API fetches are throttled, autoflags are throttled, and posting to chat is throttled

There are ways to convey categorical information without having a specific field to fill

I do like the idea of using colored boxes to replace the old bounty and closed displays, and support adding the eyeball to watched tags, removing views/answers from the left, but what they've settled on just doesn't make sense

they wanted a list they could add more info to, but now they're pulling the info out of it, that indicates there's a design flaw with the list, not the stuff you put in it.

now the font is bigger, so adding stuff to it will affect the height even sooner

Is it "kosher" to recommend that someone else raises a Meta.SO post if they've had a few of their recent questions closed? It's a fairly high-rep user in a tag that I'm not into (regex is involved); I've seen two of their posts in the Reopen queue in short succession, and they reference another (related) post of theirs that was deleted.

... I mean, regex closures aren't that common on Meta, but we have to start somewhere. ;-P

most of the concepts/needs have been covered in canonicals, and there's a group of users who more often than not close in favor of them. there's also a group who disagree with that idea, no real... agreement was really reached there
