@EJoshuaS But they're all low-rep users, so it's annoying, but not that depressing. Seems like quite a few newbies hang around the python tag and answer easy questions like that.
I don't understand how is this possible that every time Bill posts an answer they get one upvote and I only sometimes get an upvote. That answer was just code-only answer.
If Meta agrees, then someone needs to burninate. If you are SME then maybe nobody will mind if you do the burnination yourself, but there has to be trace of it on Meta either way
@Dharman I see the same thing on regex pages. Certain users get 4 or 5 upvotes for an answer. If I post the same thorough, optimized, and explained answer, I'm lucky to get 1 UV. Posts are too seldom voted on based on merit.
@Joundill Please see FAQ #11. For SOCVR, there needs to be activity on the question within the last 6 months. This question shows the most recent activity as 3 years, 5 months ago. Is there something else which qualifies this for a cv-pls request?
@SurajRao sigh I have gotten really tired of SE abusing everyone on the SE network for basic bug detection/reporting of poorly thought out, and very poorly tested, changes. I know the testing matrix for changes on SE is huge. I sympathize with it being a big task. I even expect them to have a notable number of bugs that need to be found by people using it. But, the level of quality that has been typically going live on the network has been far below what I consider acceptable.
@SurajRao meh, maybe just apt at using SE and posting screenshots with descriptions.
@RyanM I actually feel bad about that. It took me too much time and energy. I'm frankly tiered atm... Next time I won't report anything and let others participate instead. (I mean, I feel bad about rushing the thread and reporting... Should have let more new users post their reports instead. But it's likely the last time I do that.)
@bad_coder But, I haven't seen a single one of those which shouldn't have been caught in a basic design review and testing, even just basic development testing.
@Makyen Most of the really glaring issues this time (with a couple exceptions) weren't bugs, though. They were design issues. I think that's a different problem: it was working as designed, but the design was bad. Either way, it really should have been either a partial rollout on MSO/MSE or an opt-in, allowing for these usability issues to be caught.
@Makyen I don't know what their strategy is. I think they were overwhelmed when they started changing the profile to responsive. The first such threads had some signs of the design team being under an avalanche of legacy code. The last pair of Q's had a much lighter feeling coming from them.
@bad_coder Their strategy was to get it out before the holiday code freeze so they'd enter the new year with all the deprecated mobile views replaced. Why? No idea.
@Makyen I really don't know, this one had serious breaking changes. The one before this had a "political" dimension since they were removing last seen and other fields. When Dark theme launched (which must have been an overhaul) maybe they wanted to show something to appease the users as a sign of good will.
I got the sense that they were trying to do better than the review queues this time, given things like showing the preview video. Unfortunately, that's really not enough. This answer talks about it: you really need to actually try to use it to find the problems.
@cigien the cloned question itself is full of answers that are irrelevant... they are copied from random SO questions. Also the original was already linked here
@RyanM right at the middle of Daniel Cormier's youtube video, he says they tried to salvage the old summary layout and it was impossible. It used style elements shared by other parts of the site and whenever they tried changing something everything broke.
So they gave up the old layout (which more or less we ended up getting 48 hours later) and went with what launched.
My impression is they didn't realize just how much user's would dislike the all vertical solution, or they had trouble thinking of alternatives (because the summary layout was pretty close to optimal already).
In a previous thread there was some talk about a masonry layout, maybe we'll get something amazing in the future, but for now I'd say it's looking pretty good.
@bad_coder Yeah, it was fairly close to optimal. It didn't take all that much to make it responsive. It was more complicated due to SE's use of Stacks and lack of semantic CSS, but it was quite doable. While the newer look and feel might be desired, it certainly wasn't necessary.
@bad_coder regular users dont use it via mobile that much.. And I bet googlers who search for their problems will be searching in their laptop/desktops while working...
@SurajRao I get a feeling the company is betting on the smaller sites (with entertainment value) to broaden the user base. I also know for a fact an RO in another room only uses SO on his phone to not use it on his work computer. (There's no published stat on percentage of mobile users afaik.)
@RyanM what I'm thinking about is: just how large is the design team? We know they are 3 devs at least, but even if they're 5 that's an amazingly small team. I really like the fact they make videos, that shows a lot of good will and engagement.
@Makyen I don't know if it was necessary, but they have a strong argument for everything floating regardless of screen size. I honestly haven't tried adjusting resolution to test it yet but in the video it looks really good (can't even think about changing my display.)

@tripleee all of the answers being garbage isn't a close reason, right? This is why I am asking how the page can be neutralized.

@Tomerikoo while it would have been a decent gesture to edit the accepted answer with the non-breaking improvement to the snippet, I don't fault the poster for wanting to potentially earn unicorn points for posting a superior version of the resolving advice.
In standard English language, they would be represented by 'single quotes', when indicating that the word is being used loosely, sarcastically or in an unusual sense.
@SurajRao I saw that comment too. I lack the SME to tell. On one side the fact that OP said it solved their problem is an indication that it is a dupe, on the other hand I don't see anything similar to the other 2 answers in the potential dupe tartget...
The tag wiki lacks usage guidance, but mainly, I am wondering if citing the authors' names is the right thing. It was edited a few days back and I rejected the edit, so I am also wondering if I was still right
@TylerH Yeah, the original reason seemed quite odd, the OP wasn't asking for a tool rec. I'm not sure if it deserves to be closed at all though, my C is too rusty to know for sure.

@EJoshuaS-ReinstateMonica NB - the close reason that was used also covers things like tutorial requests or other general recommendation requests, too; not just "tool recommendations".
@EJoshuaS-ReinstateMonica That question could (sort of) be answered with a quote/extract from the C Standard. It's not a brilliantly expressed question - the else keyword isn't a statement but the sub-statement attached to it is ... and that will not be executed if the expression in its nearest if evaluates to non-zero. cc @TylerH @Dharman (and others).
BTW There is no actual else if in C ... that's just an else with an if block as its sub-statement.

If anyone's got CVs to spare, someone has gone through lots of old "this or that tech?' questions and flagged them as opinion-based and put them in the CV Queue (most are too old to request here)
@Makyen Yeah, it was tagged as MangoDB which has very few watchers. It looked like it was probably meant to be asking about MongoDB, but because of how unclear the question was, I couldn't confidently edit it to be about Mongo and get enough tag watchers for it to be closed. FWIW, I added a message below my request mentioning that it was quite old.
