@10Rep I know a little Java, but personally I give up on Android Questions/Answers. The Questions always (read: often) requires a lot of code and I have no idea if the Answers are correct.

@KenWhite Actually that was a legit question. The question is not how to run a program in the background in general, but how specifically to run a specific CAD program and use the API without the CAD program opening graphics window(s). That may not be possible unless the specific program, here solidworks, allows it. Not sure it does, codestack.net/solidworks-api/getting-started/stand-alone/… suggests it may be a premium feature.

@dbc I disagree. The OP provided a link to some other code and said that they weren't sure whether that did all they want or not, which indicates they did not even try that code. It also does not indicate any effort to do anything else. In addition, see the comments.

I did see the comments. But I've worked in the CAD industry, and questions like "How do I run a headless SolidWorks / CREO / CATIA / Solid Edge / Etc Etc" come up, and other people in the industry will understand the question. If the question had been properly tagged solidworks, the OP might even have gotten an answer.

But having seen the comments, I'm not particularly regretting that the question was deleted.

Also, in general there aren't a lot of specialist CAD programmers answering here, so the question might not have gotten an answer anyway.

And also socvr.org/faq#can-i-request-reopen: Reopen Votes Request are perfectly welcome. If you see something that you think should be reopened, we're more than happy to look at it. Note: most of the time reopen-voting requires domain specific knowledge, so there could be no one in the room that truly understand the subject matter enough to make a judgment call.

@ta_duke As has been stated, yes, we welcome reopen requests. However, requests for posts in which you are "involved" are not permitted (details as to what "involved" means are in the FAQ). In part, that means that reopen requests for your own questions are not permitted here in SOCVR.

For your own questions, you can edit the question. The first edit to the question after it is closed will put the question in the reopen queue, where it will be reviewed by at least three other users, who can vote to reopen or indicate that they feel it should remain closed.

@AndrasDeak Foreign words often don't follow the rules of 'french' prononciation. de Coriolis, despite having the distinguish 'de' in front of the last name, are Italian. We pronounce s with 'bus', 'tennis', etc, and even 'ours'. As for the 'ch' pronounced 'k', there are many others, Bach, Offenbach, orchestre comes to my mind

Thank you for clarifying that the page will Roomba in 9 days @JeanneDark However, very often I've seen OP's accept "close enough" answers which block the Roomba after my attention has shifted elsewhere. I prefer not to risk a rogue upvote or green tick sabotaging the purging of bad content.

Does anyone have a suggestion for an answer that promotes a library without the answerer disclosing the fact that they wrote the library?

Is there anything that needs to be done?

@DaneBrouwer Either edit the post and add the attribution yourself if this is their first such answer or spam flag if they did it more times. If you are unsure then flag for moderator attention and clearly explain your concerns

@DaneBrouwer If you think it's a genuine oversight on the part of the poster, comment with a link to something like this. If it looks like it just exists to promote the library (e.g. if they've made 6 such posts in the last 30 mins) flag as spam.

User doesn't disclose ownership/contribution to library though, seems like a library punt to me. They should at least disclose their affiliation. Additionally, the timestamp between the answers is too short for it to be 3 unique answers. Looks like a literal copy+paste.

I use this filter for the room to check requests. I do not act on them because I cannot. But the filter works fine. It always shows too many messages, but it generally shows the actual requests as the top ones.

I also get confused and to avoid making the same request twice, I use this filter with my ID to check my own requests. One can modify it to one's own ID.

Should the FAQ be clarified on that subject? It doesn't actually say you may not mention your previous request, just that it may be binned if you repost it.

@bad_coder That's a major reason we have URRS, because it has the CV search (which is really handy). Ever since SO moved to 3 votes we've gotten lazy in using it

@Machavity I understand that, but my experience in that particular tag is that there aren't many SME's even within the Python coders who'd can pass a quick judgement. Again, 1 simple rehash can be reasonable, and I'm also a vanilla guy without userscript, I'd like to think there are more of us out there.

@bad_coder You may re-request a *-pls action if it has aged away, but if it is still in the room, we generally have not allowed bumps. I could have sworn we had something on this in the FAQ, but now I'm not finding it. Best case now is, as Adriaan said, it falls under the general "it's 'close vote please', not 'close vote or I stab you'" rule about not pressuring users to act on your requests.

To @JohnDvorak's point, maybe we need to clarify the FAQ on that (if I can't find the relevant entry or room topic meeting)

To the room in general, please remember to assume good faith; if someone responds to a message of yours in an abrupt way, assume they are just being to-the-point and not targeting you or 'accusing' you of something. The safest thing to do is always to disengage if you find things getting heated. You can always ask an RO to review some event at a later date.

@JohnDvorak I usually do it like I just did. I've seen short messages being linked direcly, like this one, that is a self-quote of the one I also linked. Larger (and some smaller) quotes are.. subject for debate on whether they are one-boxed and violating the rules. I avoid doing them in here :)

For what it's worth, the URRS hijacks the built-in chat search function to show the same results as what happens when you click the search buttons to the right of the chat message box, relative to each button content (e.g. search for 'cv-pls' and it will show you the same content as clicking the 'cv-' button, and so on).

I disagree. I removed the messages that were interpersonal in nature, but left the ones that address the room or features/policies

Anyone involved in the conversation knows what was said, anyone arriving later doesn't need to.

@TylerH Of course you're right that others don't need to. But seeing strange messages without context will prompt users to go and find them in /dev/null to understand the context.

@Scratte Yes, a conversation here, where anyone can discuss or @reply to things, where items can be starred, is not something we want to keep when it's interpersonal in nature. So we put it in /dev/null, where it still remains for anyone who really cares to read it but where people can't do the above things.

A curious case. Was typing up an answer for https://stackoverflow.com/questions/64123288/how-check-for-address-0x0 when it got closed. I took the question at face value and concluded the architecture in question has NULL != binary zero. Notice the unusual size of output of %p.
