The slow closing is not making things better, for sure. Not sure if I'm just weird, but I stop reviewing when my pending flag count is too high. Then I patiently wait until they are either handled or ages away. I have a few very low traffic ones, so it seems I'm on a 14 day break now.

But I don't really see the point of keeping reviewing with a high pending number of flags. The reason they don't get handled is because there's too many posts in the close vote queue.. adding more doesn't seem very.. constructive.

@Scratte There are checks in place, even for many moderator actions, let alone just someone just using a gold badge to close a question as a duplicate. The OP can always raise a flag. The community gets to see almost all actions and has ways to cause the actions to be reviewed by more people; etc. It's true that it's harder to review some actions more than others, but closing a question is fairly easy to have reviewed, and the review is sometimes automatic.

@Scratte I can tell you that at least I review the CV queue with a filter on, so [android] flags are much more likely to be spotted and voted on, and once multiple close votes are on the question, they seem more likely to be dealt with more quickly

unless they're also firebase questions. I don't really do many of those.

@Scratte In general, moderators have said that people should continue to review and raise flags, even if there's a backlog. The flags will get handled eventually, except the ones which can expire, but those are, almost, all either ones which are handled via review queues (close, NAA, VLQ), or which are considered high priority (spam, R/A).

There are several people with CV privileges in the [android] tag, so those are usually either closed or roomba. And I usually cv-pls them a couple days later if they won't roomba and aren't handled by then (the delay is to prevent flooding the room with all the terrible questions in that tag that would be closed/deleted anyway without any additional action)

@Scratte Why? Either just put them in their own window, follow them, bookmark them, just look in your list of flags; etc.

@RyanM Well, that makes it fairly clear that the displayed count doesn't include deleted questions when rep <10k, because you'll certainly have a significant number which are deleted.

@Scratte Well, you could just create a chat room and dump a message with the URL of each post when you flag it. A quick adjustment to the URRS, so it runs in that room, would give you an easy list indicating the current status of the post and if it's been edited since you posted the message it in the chat room. Obviously, it would make the list of posts you flagged public, but it would work.

Hmmm... actually, you could combine it with using the Archiver, which shows deleted chat messages in rooms where you're an RO or on sites where you're a moderator. You could then just delete each message after you create it, which would make it a bit more private (not totally), but would still give you the list, if not quite as convenient.

@Makyen But what happens when it's edited is that I'll respond to the edit. They're usually not addressing all the issues, so I'll keep revising the same post until it's OK :) I'm also not very good at user script creating, so I think the project would be very.. time consuming :)

I have currently 26 pending flags. Some of those are on Questions with code in images. Chances are the flags will age away, and the work reviewing them was sort of wasted. I suppose I just think of it as fruitless work, so doing it very slowly is not harmful.

@Scratte The only userscript change I suggested was adding your new chat room's room number to three lines at the top of the URRS. That's ... really not that difficult. Everything else already exists. Alternately, you could set revisits for each post you flag, so you automatically revisit the post after the time you select. Sure, there's scripting you could write that would make it easier, but it's not required.

@RyanM Failing to save should be relatively rare. Are you still using Greasemonkey? If so, I wouldn't give it any guarantee of working.

@RyanM OK. That part is a bit ... convoluted. You will get a failure to save reasonably commonly if you've opened multiple tabs at the same time, or within short period of time (including as a result of revisits). The script implements a relatively primitive locking mechanism for the data structure which is used to store the data, which is ultimately held in the browser's background process, but which has to maintain some level of consistency between the various processes and tabs.

Unfortunately, there's no method implemented natively to allow for locking, so it's a bit haphazard.

The notification that it failed to save happens when the tab which is wanting to save attempts to obtain a "lock" on the data structure, but fails get the lock because the prior lock hasn't been released, has not yet expired, etc. This can be made worse by the fact that the different processes/tabs don't maintain synchronization of the data all that tightly (e.g. each process/tab will have at least two levels of caches for the data and won't, necessarily, update them immediately upon a change).

I've made some changes/improvements in this area, but they got tied up with reworking how the revisits happen and have not been completed yet.

Ah, that would explain it. My workflow is, shall we say...tab-heavy.

@RyanM Yeah, that will make it much more likely that you'll see failures to save more often. Ironically, the way Greasemonkey implements userscript storage is actually much better for this, because it doesn't implement a per-tab cache (i.e. the Promise it uses for the interface isn't fulfilled until the data is actually fetched and returned from the background context), so it's much more likely to have the data stay in sync. The problem is that it's just not compatible with everyone else. :;

Why is the flag not aged away or declined/disputed?

@Scratte There were no reviews while the question was in the CV queue, so it doesn't change the status of your flag. Your flag will be active until it ages away. That happens at the same rate as for close-votes. Close-votes, on a question with < 100 views, will age away between 13.5 to 14.5 days after the the most recent close-vote is cast on the question. See Age close votes after 14 days, regardless of views, allowing recasting for more information.

The pulling of the post from the queue also means that there's noway to get the flag declined/disputed from that point on. Then it just sits there for 10 extra days doing nothing.

I've downvoted Questions on the last day of the 30 day rule. They Roomba earlier than having met with the condition for 30 days. Usually they Roomba exactly when the Forecaster says it will.

I know it works 0 day with answers, but I think there is a delay on questions of at least 24 hours.

If I downvote on Friday it will roomba in 8 days

@Scratte It depends. It's a weekly task that runs at 03:00UTC on Saturday. So, it only looks at votes which occurred at least 2 days prior to that.

@Scratte 0 = it is expected to Roomba within the next 24 hours. 1 = 24 to 48. The tasks run at most once per day.

Is it 2 days as in 48 hours or would a downvote on thursday evening do it? I can make it into a wednesday ritual :)

@Scratte Other than just wanting to know, don't sweat it. Things shouldn't be downvoted to have them deleted. They should be downvoted if they are worthy of a downvote based only on the content. It shouldn't matter when you do it. The Roomba will get it, when it gets it.
