@S.S.Anne Those are the users which currently have SD instances running. The instances which were active were teward/Isis, teward/Osiris, and iBug/Sandy Shores. These sorts of issues, generally, originate with communication problems with metasmoke, so I also rebooted it (my instance did report communication issues when reporting to MS).

The definition I intended was the third one found here: "one who supports … the interests of a cause", in that I support and suggest people be aware of their online privacy. I am not a lawyer, and am not enrolled in coursework studying the law.

Not a formal position at all, @Plain_Dude_Sleeping_Alone. Just a supporter. In the same way that you might like Python so much that you promote its use to your friends/coworkers. That would make you an "advocate" of the Python programming language.

@Makyen It...doesn't, actually. It is actually easier to consult and/or give legal advice when you're not a lawyer, as then you're not held legally responsible for the veracity of the advice given.

@CodyGray It depends on your jurisdiction and the details, as most legal things do. :-)

I have been known to give my opinion about what I would do if I found myself in a particular situation, but such certainly shouldn't be considered as advice as to what someone else should do.

@Chipster Supposed to according to whom? There's no law against it. There is, however, a law that holds lawyers accountable if they dispense legal advice, so they're not going to do it unless they've studied the details of your case and all relevant case law. Which probably means you're going to have to pay them, or be a really good friend. It isn't something they can justifiably do on a whim.

I, on the other hand, not being a lawyer, have no such stipulations attached. Naturally, you trust what I say at your own risk, but we can discuss it freely, and I can give my opinions without fear of penalty.

Representing someone in a court of law is an altogether different thing... I wasn't referring to that.

The thing is, Law.SE is a huge personal liability for someone who is actually a lawyer. Whereas it isn't a problem if I were to contribute.

As I understand the law, at least in Texas (YMMV in other states), it isn't even necessarily sufficient for a lawyer to add a disclaimer to their proffered advice.

At least, that doesn't get them out of the liability.

@Chipster Just saying what the law says (i.e. reciting the law), isn't considered giving legal advice, in most places, if that's all you actually do. As far as I know, it's when you start getting into how the law applies to the person's/entity's specific situation, or actually suggesting what they should do are the main ways that you can cross the line.

Can someone remind me how the negative score hiding works, the spam post just deleted showed 0 when it was -1, but when down to -5 it showed -5, but I can't find the meta post about the feature

@NickA The negative score hiding experiment is over so it shouldn't have hidden any of the votes. Maybe it was a concurrency issue. FWIW Meta post: meta.stackoverflow.com/questions/390178/…

The userscripts do work in Firefox on Android. Unfortunately, other browsers don't permit extensions in their mobile versions.

which reminds me that it annoys me as well how they've configured Chromecast to work with casting from a computer. I don't know if it's hooking into my TV's built-in YouTube app or if Chromecast has its own browser in it YouTube app/browser in it or if there's some other nefarious thing going on, but I get ads on YouTube when I cast it from my desktop computer to my living room Vizio smart TV

What I want it to do is just literally cast the window's outputted video and audio to the TV as a wireless output device

the only thing I know to try currently is to get a Raspberry Pi and put PiHole on it, then attach it between the modem and the router. It'll miss my desktop that way, but it'll catch any laptops, tablets, phones, or wirelessly connected TVs we have in the house

That sounds like what I'd want out of Chromecast, but I haven't dealt with it, so can't really provide suggestions.

@TylerH It's a double-edged sword. I'd love to run TM or similar. The flipside is older folks keep getting tricked into installing bad extensions on desktops. On a mobile device that would be awful

@TylerH IIRC, disclosure of association is generally not necessary for links to official documentation, where those links are appropriate for the Q&A (i.e. not "go look at the [documentation] for my thing which you're not asking about"). IIRC, this has been discussed on Meta with respect to links provided by employees of larger corporations (Microsoft, if I recall the discussion correctly). However, it's reasonable to apply it to smaller companies/projects as well.

Obviously, that assumes there's nothing going on wrt. the combination of the question and answer being intended as promotional. But, basically, if the user is answering real questions about a product, then they are generally free to link to official documentation without disclosing their association.

@Makyen That's fair, I only mentioned it because it looked like someone had already flagged it as it had a -1 score applied to it even though it mentioned a link to official documentation and the code for how to format links as requested by OP

Smaller sites are sometimes nice that way. Questions stay visible on the home page a lot longer.

Actually I find it's that it's easier to get things into HNQ on smaller sites. The threshold is so much smaller and there's less competition
