Naturally, the correct way to do something is probably going to be in the docs, but that doesn’t make it a resource request. It’s been discussed before, but please be cautious when applying that close reason.

@Dharman it was particular popular for BASIC as it needed a linenumber and each line could have at most 256 bytes. It is more a code-golf challenge then anything else.

@Chipster It says if the user has too many in a short time an auto flag will be raised so that is probably the most of it. Users also get rate limited on edits if they get rejected so that also helps to combat the problem.

@Chipster Spam rejection reason on edits does nothing special. It just rejects the edit. Mods won’t ever see it. If it’s truly spam, see if the user has posted and has anything else you should be flagging as spam.

@ErikA meta tag; not appropriate. Tags describe the content of the question, not guidelines/requirements for answers.

Seems it didn’t get recreated, though, so probably don’t need any support there.

Halfer is a great example of how to deal with these situations, btw. He’ll edit to remove the noise. If the OP rolls it back, and ignores his advice, he’ll raise a custom mod flag and ask us to review. He’s always very respectful in how he raises the flag, not assuming he is right, but asking a mod to evaluate and step in if warranted.

@M-- Do you not think that question can be rephrased to ask for a solution, as opposed to a recommendation?

“I want to generate this using x. I have tried y.”

It is not a problem that the answer ends up being a tool. (Or that the answerer is a tool.)

Tags delete themselves when they have no questions to their name.

Happens automatically. There’s a script that runs at 3 AM or some such time.

A tag can’t be created without applying it to a question, so it would have shown as being attached to at least one question. Most likely explanation is tag was created, excerpt was suggested, then tag was removed (because it’s useless, if the suggested except is to be believed). But if that’s the case, there’s no point in creating an excerpt or wiki. Just don’t create a useless tag.

@tink How in the world is that a request for an off-site resource? Did you post the wrong link?

@M-- Not all questions require a reproducible example. That’s only for “debug my code” questions. This isn’t a debugging question. It’s a “How do I…?” question. Sometimes those need context (which you might be confusing with needing a reproducible example), but I don’t see what additional context that needs.

@AdrianMole Yes. Tag creation is a privilege requiring 1.5k rep. Tags are created by editing a question and adding a tag to it that did not previously exist. Tag creation does have badges associated with it.

@M-- What more information would you need? The quality of the answer is not a reason to close a question. If you need more information, ask for that. But asking for an MRE is confusing, since a “How do I do…?” question doesn’t need an MRE. Consider “Hiw do I force a window to be always on top?” That’s a valid question and doesn’t need an MRE. It does need elaboration about which programming language, which environment, which platform, what type of window, etc. But it doesn’t need any code.

@AdrianMole That’s normal. Tag creation is quite rare today, unless it’s for a newly released tool/technology. It does happen. :-)

@Chipster No real advantage in a double penalty, unless it’s an established account that has more than 100 rep to lose, and then it’s probably not actually spam that merits the rep penalty. This is a good example, though. If they’ve submitted a spam post, you don’t need to find a way to flag the spam suggested edit. The account has already been dealt with by flagging the spam post.

@tink So? If I ask a question about a compiler error, you’d need to reproduce the rationale for the parser in the answer, too. That doesn’t make the question off-topic, and it certainly doesn’t make it a resource request. It’s possible the question might need to be closed, I’m not sure (but it doesn’t look like it to me), but it defintely isn’t a resource request, and closing it as that would be extremely confusing.

Yeah, "general feedback" is definitely too broad. Where I see people go wrong is someone asking for specific suggestions on how to improve a block of code, and reviewers saying, "oh, that would [possibly] be on-topic for Code Review, so I'mma vote-to-close it". That's wrong. Be a bit jealous of your site – don’t blithely turn askers away simply because their question could be asked somewhere else.

@CodyGray First, maybe we are talking about different questions, but the CV/question you replied to originally wasn't asking for a plot. Beside that, I don't need the complete dump of data. function head gives only 5 rows (explained under the link I shared with OP). The reason I need that: Syntax would differ for different datasets/classes. P.S. OP provided an example dataset for the question I asked for CV and you replied to originally, so I'll retract and ask for nullifying req. Cheers.

When should I mod flag a question for a review? I really don't understand this review; how can I fix this in the H&I queue? Seems like something for the OP, not the H&I reviewers. I remember a stray comment from @rene related to this recently. Is there a meta canonical I'm missing? (my search)

I ask because I'm wary to bothering the mods but then I stumble across this.

@M-- Maybe? It's possible I replied to the wrong one, since I was on mobile at the time. This is the question to which I was referring. It appears to be asking how to create the type of plot shown in the image in the question from R. I don't see why any sample data is necessary for that.

I'm fine with the old "DV and move on..." kinda of thing. But I recall @rene once mentioning to flag something like this for a mod. Was curious what that threshold is.

@SecretAgentMan I don't know what your question was about this review. The correct choices when reviewing that would have been downvoting, flagging, and/or voting to close. Mike, the reviewer, flagged it.

The reviewers in triage were, of course, wrong.

"Requires editing" is a recurring source of confusion.

Should such clearly incorrect reviews be mod-flagged? On one hand, it'd (hopefully) help those people review better, but on the other, the sheer number of incorrect Requires Editing actions is pretty overwhelming

I'm happy to hand out review bans for incorrect decisions in review, but even aside from the sheer volume, the lack of visibility of review bans means they're actually a rather poor teaching tool.

On the H&I queue - this problem comes up all over the place on Meta (and elsewhere). As well as better use/education of/about "Requires Editing" in Triage, maybe there should be another option in H&I itself - "Doesn't belong here" sort of thing. Currently, we can Edit, Skip (leaves it in the queue for others) of VLQ flag (seldom correct) ...

I think requiring feedback after clicking "Requires Editing", similar to how you're forced to select a reason if you choose "Unsalvageable", would help deter a fair number of those bad reviews. I would imagine "Requires Editing" is an easy way to be non-committal while still upping your number of completed review tasks

I went through a phase of using that - raises a VLQ flag, of which I had a lot declined by your colleagues. Explanation was the VLQ is a "Nuclear Option" and not for common use.

I will validate VLQ flags on questions if I think the question needs to be closed, but you are correct that several of my colleagues will not, and I understand why they won't: "Moderators aren't really supposed to be your personal question-closing valets..." (and the rest of paragraph 3).

Sometimes, just a simple "Should be closed instead" button may be nice. (What happens if one goes to the link, put in a close vote, then skip the post in H&I? Does the post still stay there?

Yes, that's what the "flag" button would do. It would pop up a menu of choices for flagging, including "should be closed".

I don't know. I'm not the right person to ask about the ins and outs of review.

@CodyGray I got an error when I submitted (using the Chrome SOCVR userscript from Makyen). I closed the error dialog and hit submit again. Internet hiccups happen. :-) Didn't post twice intentionally.

The fact that every review queue doesn't have a "This is garbage and needs to be deleted" button is...a massive oversight in my opinion. But I don't have a Meta post to link to on that.
