@JL2210 This is not currently eligible for delete-votes, nor is it 1 downvote away from that state. We don't permit del-pls requests until the post can actually be delete-voted (or, at most, requiring the first person who is going to delete-vote to downvote). Feel free to re-request this when the post is in such a state. For questions, that may require waiting until 2 days after closure, when it's eligible for 10k delete-votes.

The reason for this restriction is that del-pls requests for posts which can't currently be delete-voted carry an implicit request for the post to be downvoted, which is a type of request we don't permit.

@Makyen When will the post be eligible for deletion votes? The FAQ isn't clear on that.

@JL2210 For a del-pls, it must be either immediately able to be delete-voted, or within one down-vote of being able to be delete-voted. Users with >=20k rep can delete-vote closed questions when the score is <=-3. So, for a del-pls, that means it's closed and at a score of <=-2. Users with >-10k can delete-vote questions which have been closed for > 2 days. So, any question closed >2 days can have a del-pls posted.

For answers, users with >=20k rep can delete vote when the score is <=-1, so a del-pls is permitted at a score <=0.

@SotiriosDelimanolis A self duplicate with answers seems like a really good candidate for merging the questions, rather than just deleting one of them. That assumes the answer(s) on the dup are at least acceptable. The scores of +2 for the answers on the duplicate tend to indicate that they are. I'd suggest raising a custom mod-flag asking for merging.

@JL2210 When making a request like this, it's helpful to actually @ ping an active RO. It's relatively easy for such a request to be missed. Pinging one, or more, of us helps that not happen. You can see which ROs were the most recently active by going to the room info page (linked as "info" just below the tags for the room in the right sidebar). The ROs are in the left column, sorted with more recently active at the top.

Minor grumble to no-one in particular - while I understand the purpose of the rep re-calc, there are some awful accounts who have now acquired Trusted User status. They have now been rewarded for spamming the site with just-about-tolerable questions, even if many of them were zero-effort.

It comes as no surprise to me that the same group often have no idea how to write a decent question despite having perfectly acceptable English and despite having been a member for years - so now we have lots more 20k+ users adding begging messages and a stream of excisable waffle.

(FWIW I don't know if this means quality is going downhill faster than usual - that group of users aren't going to post rubbish any faster than they would have done without the rep bump).

As long as we reward contributions themselves, rather than moderation tasks, with reputation, that's going to be inevitable, @halfer. There are people who gain reputation by posting a series of low-quality answers, answers to obvious duplicates, and other types of drivel, and those have always been awarded with reputation.

We're always going to have a group of users who simply don't grok the purpose of the site.

Or who don't care.

The good news is, having moderation privileges doesn't necessarily mean that such users are going to use them. In fact, it's likely that they are not. In large part because we don't gamify moderation.

@CodyGray Yes, answering bad questions is another interesting problem. While there are plenty of woeful answers out there that fall under that category, there are unfortunately some users who do grok the purpose of the site and reward awful questions with good answers (the SQL tag comes to mind). Thus, the stream of woeful questions in some tags continues unabated, because the LQ posters know they don't have to make any effort themselves.

@CodyGray As long as it is easier to answer a duplicate than it is to close a question as a duplicate, you will always have people who answer duplicates. The cv-system just isn't strong enough at this point to close as a duplicate normally, and gold-badge holders aren't around enough to get all duplicate questions closed. In the mean time, we get reputation for answering duplicate questions before they are closed, so it is in everyone's best interest to do so.

I think lowering the close threshold will help with this. There's usually at least 3 people on in a given tag at a time (even at night), so closing duplicates will be much easier (or at least roughly as easy) than simply answering.

@Chipster You are preaching to the choir here. I have made exactly the same argument in just about every region of this site with a textbox, including Meta and private channels to employees. :-)

Again, preaching to the choir, but I think giving a weight to people with tag badges (not just gold, but silver and bronze) might help too.

Right. So, in my ideal world, gold badge holders would have the ability to unilaterally close a question for any reason (not just a duplicate). This is not a stretch: folks with expertise in the subject matter are more qualified than anyone else to judge whether a question is unclear, too broad, or lacking an MCVE.

Silver badge holders would also be highly trusted, but wouldn't have unilateral power. Another vote from another user would be required to agree with them. This would serve as an extra sanity check, but still provide additional trust to trusted people.

Rant: Suspected sock-puppet. That follows a similar pattern observed on their other accounts (all similar phrasing among accounts). The puppet master creates a sock-puppet per topic, quickly amasses reputation in a short period through many closely related questions.

Will accept all answers, whether accurate or not and pressure posters to vote up their questions. Would then raise multiple bounties to draw attention to their less popular posts and in most cases leaving them to expire once answered.

Not really sure why I let it bother me though

The recent increase in question rep has seem to emboldened some as they now have more rep to raise bounties to draw attention.
