In regards to my most recent cv-pls, the poster (after several requests to provide a MCVE) decided to edit and dump a couple of hundred lines of code into the post. Still no MCVE.
@Zoe We should put up a web page to say that Wikipedia is the correct place to ask lazy/GMTC questions, just like Google and various other companies do. No reason why Wikipedia can't get some of our fun!
@Makyen I don't have the del privilege yet, but I am trying to understand when the question qualifies for del-pls? The question you suggested can be roomba'd, so what is the reason to cast del votes on it?
Hey folks, I just read the FAQ, but it wasn't quite clear. What's the policy on requesting close votes for duplicates (specifically for older questions)?
@Dharman The question for which I posted a del-pls would only Roomba if the answer was downvoted. We very explicitly are not to be downvoting answers (or questions) just to cause the Roomba to delete questions. Please see Clean-up by downvoting? A ridiculous user experience.
The primary criteria for del-pls is that the post needs to qualify for delete-votes, or be at most one downvote away from qualifying for delete-votes. In general, if the question will Roomba, we generally just let that happen, rather than spend delete-votes on it. If I think something should be deleted, I'll usually just delete-vote it and wait a couple of days to see if the delete-votes happen organically (part of the 10k tools gives a list of recently delete-voted posts).
For questions which we close through here, I'll sometimes set a revisit for 2 or 11 days after closure and delete-vote then, depending on the question. Also depending on the question, and commonly the reason that it was closable, I may post a del-pls in here.
The overall criteria for del-pls are looser than they are for cv-pls because our impression is that we currently get fewer del-pls requests than there are delete-votes available from our members.
@Makyen I understand that I should not cast votes just to delete the Q, but I have so many questions I would like to see deleted that when I see a poor question with a lazy answer I do not hesitate to downvote and let it roomba. After all this is my only way of showing my disapproval.
I could waste 3 votes and still it wouldn't affect anything about this post.
This is why I am asking about the rules for del-pls, because some of them I could click the button and ask here for it to be deleted if it is not against the rules.
@Dharman If you are voting based on the content of the post on which you are voting, then that's fine. If you are voting for other reasons, then that's really not how up-/down-votes are intended to be used and such uses are generally forbidden, or at least strongly discouraged.
@Dharman The main things written on the site for what should be delete-voted are in the 10k delete-vote privilege and the 20k delete-vote privilege. The general rule of thumb about deleting is that they should be things which are causing harm (or more harm than good).
Many people feel the criteria is that it's things which are not helpful to future visitors, but it's inherently quite difficult to make determinations about what might be helpful to future visitors. Sure, somethings are easy to make that determination, but that's often not the case, and can be something where opinions can vary quite a bit.
The question I answered is upvoted by 4 peoples when I answer that questions I only get one upvote even the answer was accepted by the question asker. stackoverflow.com/questions/57008013/…
@Sanaullah You haven't explained your solution. Stack Overflow is not about suggesting ready-made solutions, but about explaining and teaching. If you want to provide a working block of code you should also explain what you have changed and why.
@Sanaullah: And you will want to improve that answer since as written, it is little more than a code-dump answer, making it possibly useful to the original poster, but not useful to anyone else. Please read the How to Answer link.
@Makyen: yes there are, but given the text of the question, my thinking was that they are likely out of date. Also, an off-site close is a stronger close than a duplicate close, since the former cannot be undone by a gold-badge member.
