So the mechanic called and it's both a dying alternator and he thinks possibly a dying battery. He didn't check the belt or the tensioner though, but he said he would check them when he removes them to replace the alternator

I was sure if the battery were 2 or 3 years old; I checked and I got it the middle of January 2013 so it's about 3.6 years old

so not super surprising if it has started failing but that's still not a very long time for one to last

then again I do keep the car outside 24/7

I like Advance Auto Parts for their batteries. Had to buy one when it died on a trip my wife and I took. 2 years later it died again. The guy actually dug through through their DB to find the sale date and got it replaced free

One other suggestion would be to find an auction guy. We found a guy who goes to auctions for a living and he charged us $500 flat to bid on any cars we wanted. He found us an awesome loaded late model car. Had to put new tires on it but was like $8k below what a new one would be

Without a clear definition of what "best" is, I propose this solution for sorting arrays: Print each array item on a slip of paper, and place each slip of paper in a clearly marked envelope. Mail the envelopes to your grandmother with instructions to return only the items that were included in both envelopes, along with some cookies. as I understand it, they use a very specific raid mode that needs special drivers and changing it to something more common (AHCI) isn't possible. So, if the installation doesn't understand the raid mode, you are out of luck
