If you really want to start with something other than basic es5, use jQuery. Once you have a handle on jQuery, figure out how to do everything without jQuery

I used to regularly write scripts in Python... now I find myself writing more and more of them in JavaScript. The async nature makes many of them more efficient with less effort.

The user already needs to put the braces in the right place. Eliminating the braces and relying on indentation just makes those determinations result in properly-formatted code.
