@Starship keep in mind you can also get mods to clean up answers that obviously repeat earlier answers. I've done this to clean up a number of overloaded questions before. Just flag each answer individually with a link to the answer(s) that it is clearly a repeat of. meta.stackoverflow.com/a/284028

Or, for a more recent ref: meta.stackoverflow.com/a/431680 is talking about it in the context of review queues but the same applies anytime

@miken32 I guess it's just a simple missing step in the explanation: "$fooo['dog'] returns an array where" and then talks about $dog, so $dog = $fooo['dog']. It does follow logically when reading the sentence: it's the return value and then accessing index zero of that return value. OP probably had this in their code and copied it over without the assignment line.
