I see this as a problem, but what am I going to do about it. I have already voiced my opinion to anubhava, but he just defends his actions with a general "well, I disagree".

I suppose if I wrote a book about regex, and posted this in my profile, then it could only help my book sales if I also had a ridiculous amount of regex-points and rep points.

Alternatively, doing the thankless job of curating great content will do nothing to boost credibility.

This is why I am burnt out. There are super high frequency users that are actively interfering with good content curation.

I find myself caring less about SO in the last couple of weeks and focusing on my niche community -- at least there I can make an impact on positive change.

@mickmackusa Regex seems to be causing quite some 'grief' of late. There was that Meta post about Wiktor and his 'over-zealous' use of the dupe hammer; then there's this one, and your issues with the 'other way'. I don't do regex, so I can't really comment from an SME perspective ...

... however, that post you linked looks like a very strong dupe candidate for the "IBAN Canonical" you mentioned. Is it fair to close as a dupe, though, when that target doesn't use (or even mention) regex, but the question specifically asks for a regex? I don't feel that closing as "unclear" is right, but I feel semi-inclined to CV on the dupe.

@eyllanesc OK. You posted a reflag request, suggesting (to me, anyway) that it had been flagged and cleared previously. But I was happy to add my NAA flag to it, anyway.

Choosing the "best" one requires the OP to provide clarity first.

You tipped my balance - I added the third CV as a dupe (but that doesn't show in the UI, of course).

@eyllanesc We don't do NAA and VLQ flag request in here unless you're unable to have an active flag on the post. It does very little good, and some harm (flagger is unable to review in review queue), to have multiple NAA or VLQ flags. So, the expectation was that you had raised a flag, but the flag had been invalidated by someone having edited the post. Given that there is no record of an edit, the assumption was that you raised an VLQ flag and the OP edited during the grace period.

As I said on the page being discussed, if the old canons are not comprehensive enough, or need to be updated, then the ideal resolution would be to improve the canons instead of spraying SO with 30 individual pages.

I was also swayed by the fact that the first dupe closure was by a user who "knows their stuff!" ;)

@Makyen I do not understand what you mean, that "answer" makes a request for them to sell a possible code and for me it is clearly not a valid answer for what it marks as NAA

@eyllanesc Yes, but a single NAA flag puts the post into the review queue. More NAA flags don't do all that much. Each additional NAA flag increases the number of "looks OK" responses needed in the review queue to remove it without deleting it, and, if the post is not acted upon from review, tend to get the post handled a bit sooner by moderators.

Overall, SOCVR's policy is that we don't permit flagging requests for VLQ or NAA, unless you are unable to put an active flag on the post. That can happen if A) you've previously flagged with VLQ or NAA and your prior flag is no longer active (retracted, invalidated, or handled), or B) you're out of flags.

@bad_coder mmm, I understand the justification but then why do you provide the ability to make requests with the tools that you provide (userscripts)? Wouldn't it be nice if those tools offered some warning?

Feature Request: Downvotes on answers during reviews should: (a) be free; and (b) not count as part of one's daily vote quota. I'd complete my LA daily tasks a lot more quickly, then. :-)

@Makyen I am guided by the tools that the room provides because they facilitate the work so perhaps it is good that the userscript that is used to make requests launches some warning for that type of case.

@eyllanesc Because it's non-trivial for the script to determine if you've already flagged and that your flag has been retracted. In order to get that information from the SE API, we would have to go through the OAuth2 flow and obtain a token from your authorization for the script to act as you, at least to get private information like your votes. I'd have to check, but that information might not be available unless there was the authorization for write access, which is even further authorization.

@Makyen I do not say something that prevents sending but something simpler, for example that when that option of the combobox is selected then a window is displayed indicating something like: "Analyze well if you want to send this request since it is only valid in specific cases" and then put a link to the docs that they provided me. Since the use of "NAA" in this room must be exceptional. Then any user will read the docs and decide.

@eyllanesc really don't know. I linked the FAQ because it seems relevant. (The reasoning there does make some sense and seems to apply to this case).

How is the "belongs on another site" flag handled? Is it reviewed by community or by mods?

@kesarling See What is migration and how does it work?: "If you don't have the privilege to cast close votes, you may flag to migrate it just as you would cast a recommend closure flag. This would put the question into a queue for users with enough reputation to review and possibly cast votes." It's handled like a normal flag for closure.

@Turing85 it's both and neither. OP asked about libraries, but made a mistake using a standard library class. I usually go through the effort of giving both explanations in the comments, fortunately this time 2 other users did that for me. Needed to be closed anyway.
