if I've learned anything from my time as a programmer, it's that when it comes to engineering, there is no "right choice", just "a good enough choice". Really, learn something, anything. It's going to be good enough.

FWIW, I 'dabbled' in C# some years ago but I was discouraged by its lack of support on non-Windows platforms. Now, I'm considering going back into it. It's certainly a well-designed language and a nice coding environment. But I've been coding in C++ for more years than I care to count.

But, for GUI apps, C++ will still present you with big issues when it comes to cross-platform usability.

@AdrianMole not that I dabbled w/ Gooey... do things like Qt ease the pain?

@tink My 'objection' to third-party stuff like Qt and wxWidgets (albeit many years ago) was that programs written with them just didn't look native enough. Windows GUIs should look like Windows; Mac GUIs should look like Mac.
