@Drew Depends on the issue. If I'm trying to locate the issue, usually var_dump() style debugging works well. If it's more obscure, I like stepping through with phpdbg (the 7.0+ version; 5.6 is quite a bit buggy)

for big output (i.e. multiple hundreds of lines), file_put_contents() is also nice
