@Mahesha999 A lot of information is very useful. Over time it turned out that not all information is best kept in a Q/A format. The polling/list questions are a good example of that. You'll find many from the early days. 6 years later we are sure these where not the greatest questions ever posted, despite their popularity.

@DEAD "locked to be preserved" comm'on that really does not make sense literally...even stackoverflow never says it that way...it says "locked since offtopic" and then "preserved for historical significance" and I feel that should have different meaning (I dont get the meaning of "locked to be preserved")

@Mahesha999 It's locked so it won't get deleted. Off-topic questions usually get deleted.

Yes, Quora, blogs, reddit are great places to find this information

@Mahesha999 ultimately "should I switch" questions are extremely subjective, and so not particularly suitable for the Stack Exchange format

reddit has upvotes / downvotes which should help raise useful content to the top in the default view, but my very limited experience is that it doesn't work very well there

also because n years later, you don't know if the highly upvoted thing is still true

I really have no authority on this site's rules. But I can tell you one TRUTH: "deleting something straight which has been revised/edited by developer community in hope that it will some day help someone else, putting hours in those edits over years and years is SIN ". There should be stackoverflow-off-topic-questions-site on stackexchage.

If stackoverflow really dont want to keep these questions which community contributed over years, it has got no eternal rights to lock them. Just move them to this off-topic-sister-site and let them breath alive. No offense.
