TFS/Svn/Source Safe are all centeralized version control system. There is one server and everyone works off of it. Git is decenteralized, which means every "checkout" of the code base becomes its own server. You can push and pull code to every checkout as you wish.

Actually the company I am working at(around 200 developers in here) uses TFS. For the 3 months I've been here, it seems, it works ok.

Having used git, SourceSafe, SVN, TFS old and TFS new, I can say that TFS new is miles ahead of TFS old.
