@TylerH does such thing count as plagiarism or something else? here: stackoverflow.com/a/65091293/8620333 the user edited his answer to include the solution I provided (edit made 25min after my answer). I doubt it's a coincidence since he was going a complete different direction using CSS grid/flexbox and there is a clear evidence that the solution is the same.

PS: I don't want to focus on the user because I face this many times (even with other user answers) so I am wondering if it's OK or not. If such actions deserve flagging or something else (or simply nothing at the end)

I mean, if the solution to achieve some layout is white-space: nowrap and overflow auto, there's only so many ways you can write that

@TylerH well, it's not only white-space nowrap and overflow ... it's a solution (1) not using flexbox at all (2) using a different technique considering inline-block with two tricks (3) making the first one block element to be full width and (3) using white-space:nowrap to create the overflow. It's not a trivial idea if we consider the initial question and the other user already provided a second method using CSS grid and right after my answer he surprinsigly got the same idea as mine.

a lot of coincidence IMO even if we cannot talk about 'text plagiarism". Someone post an idea and then after a lot of time another one do the same seems not fair for me and I see such behavior a lot in the site and never know what should be done (besides downvoting in some cases)

I mean you would really have to know the mind if the user to know if it was intentional or not. At that point (like with any similar situation), I think the appropriate course of action is to follow the 'assume good faith' rule.

If you think there is true cause to not assume good faith (or there's evidence to the contrary, in other words), then you could flag for a moderator to take a closer look, but you'd have to hope the moderator that reviews the flag is knowledgeable in CSS, of which only a few active ones are.

Personally I would not have done what the user did; I would have instead suggested "for this kind of implementation, see Temani's answer" and just directed them to you

Perhaps the user just wanted to provide an answer of their own that contains all possible useful solutions, and did use your answer as the inspiration for their own implementation.

The thing is, the idea is separate from the implementation; sure, they may have copied the idea, but ideas are not particularly copyright-worthy or plagiarized... implementations are.

@TylerH ok thanks, but what bother me is when a user add a late asnwer to old questions and I see the user with the accepted highly upvoted answer editing his answer to include new solutions. It's a bit unfair for user doing the effort and their answer are far at the bottom.

Yes, I totally understand the bother and I would probably feel the same way, especially if it happened repeatedly. I am just trying to be objective :-)

@TylerH yes I try to also be obective. I picked an example where I was involved (so It feels a bit personnal ..) but I saw worse than that. I will probably try Mod flag next time and see. Wa have a lot of Mod that can handle CSS questions (Samuel, Makyen Ry, Bolt and probably Machavity)

especially that Samuel seems to have a lot of free time :p

I do agree it is probably not the best idea to be doing so many reviews

though he is doing some reopening as well

@TemaniAfif nice answer; yeah that kind of stuff used to be more common/celebrated (of course they used to be asked in more high-quality questions)

and we used to do emulation css challenges here

e.g. reproduce a photo or gif effect in pure CSS, kinda like what Ana Tudor does on Twitter
