Depending on who i am collaborating on i will use either. Personally i camel case but i end up developing with a lot of people who use underscores.

@Pilot float overrides display and sets it to display: block; .progress is taking on the float of its parent and so is ignoring display: inline-block and is acting like display: block

if you set .progress to float: none you would have the same result as your original. Does this make sense?
