Q: is it possible to browse/search a github repo using regex? What I'm trying to do is search for how many hits I get for "global" in the wordpress repo but I need to exclude those preceded with "@". I'm thinking that this is not possible with github's interface. Of course I could just clone the whole repo and use some grep magic...

@HamZa I don't think it's possible. Github won't directly let you write a regex query since there's always the risk of redos by users.

Great topic… This has been on my mind, maybe one of you can share some thoughts. If you have a web-service that analyzes a user-submitted regex server-side (unlike regex101, which is JS)… For instance the pages that explain a regex, or a script that would optimize a pattern… How to know the regex is well-formed and won't send you into a crazy loop? Nothing out of the box in PHP IIRC… Would Perl's YAPE::Regex help? Or something else in Perl or Python?
