ah, managed to find a fix for the font problem I had
seems like getting TkDefaultFont isn't actually the default font used by a text widget, especially whenever you do not set one with font= (when using TkDefaultFont, it actually used "Segoi UI" instead of "Courier New", which is my default font)
the real thing that would perhaps get me the default font would be TkFixedFont
the other weird thing is that the width of the text widget change per font (even when with is fixed to say, 10)
