@Scratte we wouldn't lose, except the thing about moderation is, it's a job for the looong haul. @Dharman certainly has shown that daily commitment. A lot of people become mods, are enthusiastic flag handlers then dwindle. A handful or so handle a substantial number of flags over the long haul

That's why we have so many mods. Mind you , we do need those mods, as handling flags isn't the only things mod do and they're a vital support for the whole team and the site

weekends gets iffy though

I have noticed that Stack works in a much slower page on weekends.

That's because lots of people are only here on weekdays

Most questions come from people working, and less people work on the weekends

When school/work demands spike

I think in the weekends one could observe a rise in modding and unity questions though

Meanwhile, some of us have no idea what day it is anymore xD

as then people work on their "fun" projects

When programming you sometimes need time "off" to let your head mull over the problem you're facing

I find it helpful do do something else so my brain can work out the solution

@DalijaPrasnikar they were horrific. It was raining ash for weeks. In fact it was raining ash when @SamuelLiew came to visit us and our horse died at the same time. So many people lost their homes, so many animals died. There's also millions of $$ of donations missing. We're looking for a country property to buy and there's properties on the market with no homes, as they burnt down in the fires.

@DalijaPrasnikar well. we're all connected and Australia is like a global canary. Our flora and fauna is not robust and easily affected by change.. so it does hit us all. Plus no one likes to see the terrible loss. Then with COVID, it's been a bit of a trainwreck. I hope we do better as a species. In many ways it's changed me. That is why, if I'm not re-elected, it does not matter. Not in the scheme of things. Does that make sense?

2020 is horror year anywhere you look at... I am in capital city Zagreb, and in March we were hit by strongest earthquake in 140 years. We were literally on lockdown due to covid the night before, so there was only one casualty, I don't even want to think what would happen otherwise. City center is in ruins... not so much from the outside, but from the inside... about 25000 apartments and buildings have been damaged. At least we are managing the covid part good, so far...

@Scratte. Yes. I was responding to an earlier post/discussion about the removal of moderators and the mention that an elected moderator could be blocked from taking on the role even if elected. My concern was that since I have openly stated that will/do not support the company's pandering efforts, StackExchange might decide to block me from taking on the position should I actually manage to win.

I then, more jokingly suggested that them letting me actually keep my nomination going was possibly a good sign.

Let's recap what I remember of this year. Australia burned to the ground, Zagreb had the earthquake, Japan got flooded, military boat on fire in the US, Covid hit the world hard, Trump nearly started WWIII by shooting the iranian general, Trumps impeachment,

Kobe bryant had that helicopter crash which was news for 2 days, Harry and megan left the royalty status, Brexit, harvey weinstein got convicted, BLM movement started, hong kong citizens are now in danger, There were murder hornets in usa, puerto rico had earthquakes, giant locusts plague in afrika and asia, dam burst in michigan, ebola had an outbreak in afrika, radiation leak from russia, rissia put bounties on us troops,

Pandering == Appealing to social minorities in a way to make yourself look good knowing full well that this is your only goal and that your 'efforts' are meaningless and possible even dangerously counter-productive.

A great example of politicians doing it is Hillary Clinton having basketball players and rappers parade out on stage with her to get black voters. This is not only encouraging possibly negative stereotypes, it is offensive to those us who actually belong to those social groups and enjoy(ed) being treated as equals in our fields, instead of being given special treatment.

@Scratte, Another negative effect of social pandering is that it shuts down discussion on, especially but no limited to, sensitive topics. People become afraid to talk about some key issues of the day for fear of offending somebody, and afraid to talk about anything at all around people of some demographic groups.
