@AdrianMole As an answer on Stack Overflow I would consider this to be an abuse. But I am pretty sure one of SE sites would be a suitable place for this kind of answer. Of course it is copy-pasted, which would probably warrant deletion either way.
@Catija lol...It might be a copy-paste mistake. Or it might be a marketing move, like those advertisements where they post something without brand and let you wait a few days (to build up suspense and expectation) before you finally get to know what it's about.
I don't think this is a joke. This guy seems to be a good user. He moderates the site by editing, and he answers questions as well. I mean, he is a 40k user. Either his account got hacked, or his 12 year old kid started messing with the computer :)
I am curious if you withdrew the unserious candidate on Skeptics, tho. I can get the "I am so ready!!!" (5/40) folks, but that one really stretched the definition of "serious"

@Scratte Yeah, that is a problem. And you can't link to them either. Can always mod flag one of your own posts, or you can get lucky as I did last year and have a mod notice you talking about it
What if these are the only two nominations? Obviously, the first person will get voted for, and the second person won't get any votes. In that case, will the first person be the only moderator elected?
Also, I really wish I people wouldn't change their names so often. I kind of backed off of Meta.SO about 8 months ago so now I'm having to figure out who everybody is these days...

@AndrewMyers Heh, I use "y'all" and I do that because I'm from Texas. :P Also, Shog knows a lot more about gardening than I do and he actually likes booze.
@10Rep If you want to get more philosophical, Shog9 had power because he had wisdom and the community trusted him (and still does). Even without being a CM, people still pay attention to what he says.
@Catija it's perhaps better to remove the spam text from the 2nd candidacy. Regulars have had their fun here in chat, and in case it was a hacked account editing would protect the image of the member in question.
@bad_coder There are three outcomes. It was hacked, and they notice, and they send an email. It wasn't hacked and some explanation will come. It wasn't hacked and no explanation will come. In any case, it may not a good idea to remove them from the nomination just yet.

We are all highly receptive to concerns/suggestions when raised on appropriate channels, like Meta Stack Overflow.

@AnnZen No. The bot is programmed with standard responses. As an easter egg, moderators can tell it say specific things at specific times, but those are not stored or ever re-used.
@AnnZen No, the name "development" was used because the chat room is how Sam tested the bot while it was in development. Moderators can actually ping the bot from any chat room.
@AnnZen Yes, and re: "Gee, I thought that the developement meant developing the bot with more phrases." - It primarily is, @SamuelLiew is the one doing all the development on it, and it has been ongoing since last April (?). That room was made before the election started as he added more features
@Catija Oh, yeah, the "say" command will do that, but its use is limited to only mods. I'm...not sure exactly how it makes that determination, whether Sam has a whitelist of users, or it checks for mod privileges.
@Big_Data_Analyst As a bit more context, the reason we have to do that is that we'll often handle hundreds of flags per day, which means removing hundreds of posts. If every one of those people sends us an email... that's a lot of emails. Worse, a lot of the responses we get are rude, if not outright threatening, which has forced us to develop a blanket policy that we don't respond to off-site communications, because those quickly become abusive, if not dangerous.
@Big_Data_Analyst There have been some community-elected moderators hired by Stack Overflow (the company) over the years as full-time staff, but it's mostly been a coincidence.
The people who are active and passionate enough here to want to become moderator are also likely to be the same people to apply for jobs at the company.

@RyanM Community Managers (CMs) are employees of Stack Exchange. While they fulfill some roles that are similar to moderators, and have most of the same privileges, they aren't really moderators.
An election is where users nominate themselves as candidates for the role of diamond ♦ moderator, and users with at least 150 reputation can vote for them.

@PV8 Not on the official page. If there's someone you think would be a good moderator, you should reach out to them and encourage them to nominate themselves.
