The question How to create EGLDisplay inside Qt framework? recently graduated from SG despite getting a lot of negative feedback. Do you think it deserved to stay there, or was everyone (me included) being too tough?

@Anerdw IMO the question shouldn't have been approved the way it is, since it seems (I am not an SME on this topic) to lack an MRE. Looking at the comments in SG it seems like OP wanted to ask a "how-to" question which would have been fine I guess if they didn't mention getting errors, or something not working as expected. This led to users asking for debugging details which is correct in a sense.

The reviewers particularly seem to focus on getting OPs failing attempt while OP doesn't seem to be interested in sharing that and wants more of a how-to question. This weird tug of war seems to have resulted in a mixture of a question. Technically the question looks like a how-to question but it still mentions their failed attempts causing readers to focus on that and ask for an MRE.

i think the reviewers were simply wrong

while SO isn't a help desk or a tutorial site, asking how to do something is very much on topic, as long as it isn't so broad as to not be useful. Requiring an MRE with a how to question is simply not correct

More code isn't necessary here, given they aren't asking for help solving a problem or issue with code they've already written

it's probably worth bringing the issue to Meta generally, if only to educate reviewers better about question types

ideally the process would start with the OP being prompted to choose between "debugging" and how-to

that said, OP shows code making the obvious attempts, and it doesn't seem clear to me that there's supposed to be a totally different way of doing it; i.e. the problem is that there's some reason why the obvious API calls aren't giving the desired result

Stack Overflow's goal is to build an encyclopedia of specific questions and answers, which is why it has a big help center and FAQ. What you're looking for sounds like a forum, a place where you can discuss openly and randomly; for that, I suggest the Qt Forum.

there is, if you go to all rooms

if you leave all rooms, then reload the page, on desktop you get a join all favorites button

(all rooms but the one your'e in)

usually happens to me when i load up a session on my phone, sometimes

it'll only join the meta room, none of the others, then when i return to desktop i'm similarly only in one room

no easy way to even fix it on the mobile layout

Today is a fun day. Turned on redirecting and logging of visits for an old intranet site we switched away from 6 months ago because I wasn't allowed to decommission the old site yet but I knew lots of people were still going to it. 15 minutes in, already 73 unique users attempting to access it.

@KevinB the highlight on the staging ground icon went away for me once I clicked on the link and loaded the staging ground once

Oh, I don't have the staging ground layout memorized so well to tell from a few partial words...

to be clear, when I removed it. I went to the staging ground via that sidebar link, and then went to another page on the site, and then checked the sidebar link to see it gone. I didn't check it while still on the staging ground. But... I also would not be surprised if there were some bug here that caused some users to see it all the time... par for the course with their dev cycle

I made this crystal clear question with a minimal repo. Why do async spawn blocks event loop in NodeJS? It then get closed. I had this user Daniel Allan White doing all sort of things to my questions. Upvotes getting deleted. I don't know why this happens.

Q: Rename [.net-5] to [.net-5.0]

Please rename .net-5 to .net-5.0 as a matter of consistency since every other .NET (I mean "actual" .NET, not .NET Core or .NET Framework) version number tag has .0 when possible : .net-6.0, .net-7.0, .net-8.0 and .net-9.0

It was not.

and another mod just deleted the whole thing. Works for me; I was trying to figure out what the heck to do with it, but I was still in the "mildly gobsmacked" phase.
