@SteveBennett indeed, coverage even for an active room like ours is Euro/US-centric :( People will still pick things up from the transcript when they become active again, so it defaults back to just asking a question on SO. If asking open-ended, discussion-oriented questions would work in the Q&A itself, in spite of it being an inappropriate use of that forum, then it would work just as well in the chat rooms. Yes, there may not be someone there exactly that moment to answer the question, but then they wouldn't be in the Q&A side of the site either. Which I did because it was discussed in the chatroom. Being a spam-detector is not my profession, and will likely never be. But thats fundamentally not what SO is. SO simply isn't a teaching site. It has a goal of building a Q&A repository. I've one declined flag and it was a short, very low quality question with a link and username that, together with the overall look of the question, appeared very dubious to me (it was then quickly closed and deleted via delete votes). @JeanneDark: Yeah, I can see how that could be a false positive. To me, the biggest signs that it's probably not disguised spam are that 1) the user clearly admits that it's their site, 2) there are no signs of keyword stuffing, 3) the question is about developing said web site, so the link has an excuse for being there, and 4) it actually describes a specific programming (well, UI styling) problem. Sure, it's still close-worthy since it includes no on-site reproducible example, but it's otherwise understandable, specific and on-topic. Spam rarely is. — Ilmari Karonen 28 secs ago

However, there is a major problem that arises from this type of perspective. @Y2020-09 SO has worked very well for over a decade with the Q&A model. More conversational sites have existed before and continue to exist. They all suffer the same fate: no experts and extremely low overall quality, with some very rare gems in between. There is a reason why you find so much info on SO just by searching the web with your favorite search engine. The harm in removal is always the time spent doing so, while other tags are neglected. Nobody's ever asking if they can go through questions and give them a bunch of good, relevant tags - they just do that.
