Often there is no right or wrong. If it works, it works and if it doesn't it doesn't. Code being acceptable is very, very subjective. You probably wanted to ask for how experts would do that typically. But even they might differ there. These question are unfortunately not a good fit. SO is a Q&A format, it is not adequate for discussion between people and by extension neither for discourse nor factual discussion results. "Opinion based" in that regard means even a well-informed expert has to subjectively decide by themselves what the discussion is, what parts of it are relevant, and what is the correct result. This really isn't a good example for "not opinion based". There are two long trails of discussion to find out what constitutes an acceptable answer for the OP, to the point that the question includes an addendum to clarify the answer to the OP's preferred level of detail. While this specific question did arrive at some stable state eventually, many of these "meta questions" ultimately waste hours of expert time because the OP is "not satisfied". One counter to this is that, while I agree that your wording change indeed helps ("what's better" to "what's the difference"), there are absolutely "what's better" questions that are factual in nature. @zcoop98 If someone has provided clear and defined criteria then they don't need (and shouldn't be using) such superfluous terms like "good" or "better". That's like if someone provides specific criteria for wanting code to be exactly 1000 LoC and then calling it "the most beautiful function ever" when someone else might think the same function in 50 LoC is far more beautiful. My intent was simply to say that I feel the appearance of the word "better" in a question is not a conclusive indicator of an opinion-based question, if and only if there's clarification for the intended goal and definition of "better". The lack of defined goal is what spawns opinion answers, not searching for a qualitatively best solution. — zcoop98 1 min ago

@zcoop98 Well, perhaps in such rare cases where the OP clearly (really clearly) expressed what "better" should describe (and not in the title of course - that is absolutely horrible), it might be on-topic. Regardless, it is still kind of messy and bad practice. But coming back to the question asked, I can't see such clear definition for "better" in there. you can always edit your question to improve it, that will bump it up. Esp. in this case as you say you tried something but didn't show what exactly you tried. Most people appreciate if you show an attempt and then it's also easier to answer, because they can show you what to change in existing code rather than starting from scratch. — jps 1 min ago

re: "from scratch" - there are usually many tutorials (written or video) or even books to give you a start. Once you made your first steps you should be able to come up with at least a few line of code and ask a specific question. You said you tried something, then show what you tried. @DreamLife27 really don't see this as dismissive but.... why does Stack has to be your tool for learning? There are other tools online. Let Stack be what it excels at : be a repository of specific, tangible problems. Stack is one tool you have to learn. Use it like it should be used, and you'll get the most of it. If you need a start with kotlin.... you may need to look for beginner forums, for a subreddit community, something on quora, I dunno?.... but not on Stack. Indeed it seems to be only some sort of support tag, but it's an edge case. You can interfere with the tool in certain ways (including code), it can be customized/configured in different ways using JSON, so, I guess, I am with @Braiam. — wp78de 18 secs ago

Usually it could be a good idea to start a discussion using tags I agree. But it should be started before creating a combined tag and retagging a bunch of questions and annoying other users of the tag regularly. It is a very good idea to discuss with your peers before- check whether they share the same opinion as you or if they raise a issue, desist from retagging until discussion is complete and a clear consensus is made. You say you want discussion, but are you ok with consensus, even if the consensus is against your opinion on the matter? — TheMaster 1 min ago
