@gnat Yes, as far as I know, staff-retracted nominations would still be visible, since they're not deleted, just retracted. Regarding Robert, were it not for the suspension, he could just apply for reinstatement, without needing to go through the election. Please don't make this about trust in the moderators. Even people who are trustworthy can make mistakes, and Robert or anyone else is entitled to ask a question about our rationale without even assuming that we made a mistake. Transparency is good. I personally don't see why Sam thought it necessary to lock the post, either, but he and I don't always see eye-to-eye when it comes to moderating comments. @SecurityHound even simpler solution that will cover all (supposedly infrequent) cases of potential abuse is probably the system raising automatic mod flag whenever bountied question is closed. This way moderators would be able to review all (again, supposedly infrequent) cases of such closures and catch if there is something / anything fishy — gnat 12 secs ago

When someone deletes their profile, questions with upvoted answers are not auto-deleted. So this would only apply to a question with a negative score and with no answers with a positive score. If a bounty is involved too then that’s a pretty rare occurrence. — Martijn Pieters ♦ 21 secs ago

If the question got deservedly closed, the sooner the better, because the question is not a good fit for SO (even if it's not completely off topic it might still be too broad or unclear and cannot be sensibly answered) and shouldn't be answered. Imagine a question is too broad, someone answers it and then the OP narrows down their actual issue and it turns out differently from what the answerer thought (because they could only guess). What else do you think would help in moderation of first posts? We have first posts review qeue to take care of them for now. till the OP checks at least some number of related questions that come under the "Similar questions" pane. So if users don't check for duplicates, do you think they will 'check' for some number of related questions that are dupes? we don't need to approve the bounty, we need to close off topic questions .. if you ask an off topic question it should be closed. If you happen to bypass the closure and you are able to set a bounty they we should also be able to close your question. Interesting to note: many questions are closed quickly because the poster posts the question and then leaves, often leaving comments asking for clarity and improvement hanging. This meta question has been asked and similarly comments and answers have been posted and left unaddressed by the OP at the time of this comment, 2 hours later. I think that the best way to avoid having your question closed is to do the opposite: to address comment concerns as soon as possible, for the OP to be an active and early participant in any discussions on their question. — DontKnowMuchBut Getting Better 1 min ago
...As an icing on the cake, I closely followed all that Robert posted at MSE since his resignation post at MSO and suspensions were on matters totally irrelevant to any moderation duties at Stack Overflow, all were matters of opinion that happened to be disliked by particular MSE moderator or company employee. Cody, I just re-checked all publicly available reinstatement procedures and, you know, suspension does not block applying (and as far as I know @RobertHarvey did that, which kinda proves my point). What is more, procedures do not require that suspension would automatically block reinstatement - per my reading company employee only needs to be aware on it and take it into account, and it remains 100% their decision whether to reinstate or not. @Luuklag - A question's tag doesn't have to be changed to have a bounty opened on it. The act of the bounty being offered will present it on the front page regardless of which tags the question has. What about setting the close votes required back to 5 for bountied questions? I very much like 3 for regular questions, but wouldn't mind a need for increased scrutiny if a question is bountied. @benc when you open that dropdown and that server call is made that hits the database anyway I think we can live with an extra few milliseconds to determine that "no review queues available" is due to being banned. This question is about the red dot and for that it doesn't matter what is expensive or not as it already is determined that per user querying of that state, banned or not, is too expensive. Here's one that I have a link to because I answered it, and I only ever found a couple more related questions. Is there anything to be said for just removing bounties from the site completely? Self-bounties are pretty "overpowered" since the rep-recalculation. Burnination could be a whole lot easier, but it's been tied to the notion of "if you clean up one thing, you're responsible for cleaning up everything," which makes otherwise routine burninations of worthless flags an excruciating process. I'm in the "incremental improvements are still improvements" camp. If we had a Trogdor button, those posts could be sent into one of the queues for review, as bad tags are almost always an indicator of other problems with the posts so tagged. @SamuelLiew I am in the same situation that zack105 was in. After looking over the review I got banned for and reading the many SO Meta posts regarding "Require Editing", it's pretty clear to me that it can be interpreted as "If I could edit/improve this post without the OP". Definitely won't be doing that in the future. Also, I was trying to go through my review history to see if I did similar errors in the past and on my first ban, but I was unable to figure out how.
