After a while I see that Herbert or Red-Cloud has mysteriously renamed himself to user187802. I don't know why. Hope that it isn't be the initialization of the second leaving.

@JouleV He did that before Schrödinger's cat appeared on the scene.
@marmot It seems that some parts of pgf are loaded from the texlive installation, other parts from the users /home/<username>/texmf/tex/generic/pgf/ folder. I don't see any obvious version mismatches, but this might be worth checking
@marmot Let's see... the strange thing is that this is already the second time this week that this problems comes up... (the other one was solved by @UlrikeFischer by suggesting an update)
@samcarter the other was not a mix but simply outdated (I recognized the error message).

@samcarter @UlrikeFischer Now it is the time for the "advancement to candidacy" talks. Also the job talk tours are about to start. So I am not at all surprised by the timing.
@UlrikeFischer In the US, the PhD students have to go through an advancement procedure, where they have to give a talk. (I was in one of these just this week, of course a beamer presentation.) This is often the first time they get exposed to beamer. So it is not too surprising that they try to punch something together and get error messages they do not understand. So they end up asking.
