Are there any alternatives to using eval to immediatly run remote & trusted javascript code.

Hey, I have a question and I can't quite tell if its a stupid one: is there any way to detect, in JavaScript/jQuery, whether a particular image request has completed if that image is not part of the DOM? ie, if I do the equivalent of jQuery('<img src="foo.jpg" id="bar" />');, I'll generate an image request even though its not being added to the DOM. But is there any way to register a callback to that image load?
@Na7coldwater beautiful. Now, the tough part. Could I bind a load event for the image if I'm not the one creating it? ie, if a script generates an image request on its own, and I want to bind an event to when that image request is made.
ie, i know that Google Analytics is going to generate a request for google-analytics.com/__utm.gif?[longquerystring], is there any way for me to bind an event to that so I could create an onload event for it?
It looks like it does use Image to create the image. Now the question is, how do you override the constructor in a way that returns an object that acts just like an Image? Do all your target browsers support getters/setters?
@Na7coldwater if I'm looking for universal browser support, probably not. This is getting a bit outside of the realm of my understanding, but could I just redefine the prototype for onload to automatically call a particular function if the src attribute meets a particular regex match?
