based on your message, I've found another tutorial, and have learnt about types - (npm install --save @types/google-apps-script) - very helpful - this will allow me to remove the import line

@Sean heya - yup, exactly what you should be doing :) Sorry you had to figure it out on your own, but I couldn't advise more without knowing whether you only wanted types or a runtime library. @types/google-apps-script is a well-known type definition library for GAS that is frankly a must when developing outside Google's clould IDE.
