Hey all. I have a project that I inherited from a previous developer. I am trying to get it building in a workflow in GitHub. I know very little about Node.js and NPM (I am an ASP.NET Core developer primarily). The previous dev has a long build script in the package.json that uses copyfiles to copy node_module javascript files to the dist folder. This looks hackish and GitHub complains about it.

How should this be done? It does not appear to be using the server.js or index.js script files. They are barebones. The package.json has a run script that uses http-server as a dev server.

I note that the index.js file has a line `var angular= require("angular")`. Is that meant to copy module files to a predetermined location in the project?

I apologize for kind of jumping straight to the meat on this. I am under the gun and don't have the time available to learn node.js and NPM from the beginning.

Note that build calls the copy scripts which in turn call copyfiles for a number of javascript files.

I presume that the right way to do this would be to have node build/pack(?) the files based on the value of "main" in the node modules package.js. I just don't know how to do that.

well, that is quite not usual as you say. What you're looking for is "bundling"

a tool I use is npmjs.com/package/webpack

but bundling is more for seasoned NPM users because it require some understanding how npm works, how npm dependencies works and how it bundles the files together. And I did not even mention introducing other build tasks / transpiling (to provide cross browser support) / framework compilation / pre-build tests (if any) / ...

Hmm. The current build process (if that is what you want to call it) does not do any of those things. For the moment, they are of less concern, I think.

what your build does is just copy over files to a folder that is publicly accessible (if webapp/dist is that folder) or that you have another build script that uses webapp/dist

in the latter case, check your other build script to see if it is not packing those files. That's my setup: Node for front end files, then I stitch it together with backend builds to be deployed as multiple docker images.

That is all it currently does is copy files from .\node_modules\ to the .\webapp\dist folder. Those files are all currently referenced in the index.html. This is a fairly simple AnuglarJS web app.

@CodeWarrior if you have a deadline and not much knowledge of npm/nodejs it's probably also overkill and risky to integrate a bundler now.. the build script doesn't look "wrong" either, it just copies js files into a dist folder, the old way.. so I don't see why your CI/CD process would complain about it.. in the end you need to call npm install && npm run build somewhere and deploy that build, that doesn't change with a bundler

Am I the only one who thinks getter / setter syntax is boring?

It would be cool if they had some kind of special Getter / Setter block

there are classes with multiple fields

but you might have misunderstood the purpose of get and set syntax

you do not call these as functions

with functions, every function statement has its own this context.

But with arrow functions

arrow functions inherit this context from parent function

the working example was just an expression (could be a oneline without formatting), but when using a try-catch plus a functionCall it required a functional scope and is no longer an expression

Angular Question: Our project uses material forms and something that I noticed is that the fields do not upon initial focus have real time validation. If the user selects out of the field and then selects back in then they have real time validation occurring.

Q: How do we enable real time validation on the initial focus of the field? I'm new so I am not sure what to even Google as I have had no luck so far in my searching.

@makadev well, i tried gzip -tv ./* | grep "unexpected end of file" to mark this kinda err but the output isn't colored or filtered

@aeXuser264 the output is probably on stderr, which would make sense because you can push compressed output to stdout with -c

try redirecting stderr to stdout and grepping that

@aeXuser264 that error is most likely put on stderr instead of stdout so in your case it's probably better to just grep on stderror like f.e.: stackoverflow.com/a/2342841/3828957

Am I being incredibly dense - I've set this as a property on a Typescript class but it always return "undefined"?

It's been tried, but a better idea needs to be proposed before it will happen. Although with the prevalence of front end frameworks it may not ever come.

Is there a way to display a non form related error using react-jsonschema-form ? For ex: Form input is valid, but the save operation failed because of a backend issue. showErrorList is generally used for individual form elements errors being displayed I think react-jsonschema-form.readthedocs.io/en/v1.8.1/validation
