@Kalai.G: as per my knowledge it is not necessary. it is not necessary that we should store db in assets folder and as per the asset folder is concerned it is nothing but a internal storage for mobile apps. db is bydefault stored on data/data/pkgname/db. we can use another folder like Raw to store data of apps.
actually i need to copy an db file to asset folder and perform operations with that but when i surfed most of the links are saying that we need to copy it to our local internal memory for operations

no i dont think im getting a null pointer. i think the code is running fine. but it doesnt show any wifi results... or no popup window. i did change one thing the resource line setContentView(R.layout.activity_main); I changed to setContentView(R.layout.listview_itemlayout);
my project didnt have the resource activity_main so i changed it to another one. I have inherited someone elses app. and i am trying to get it to send xml. so i need to choose the wifi by showing the view but am a complete newbie to androidviews
