I was in an area called Main Bazaar if I recall correctly, two people tried to scam me on the train station, one at the hotel and one on the way back. Other than heartbreaking poverty the place they sent us was a really cheap and sketchy hostel geared towards people who don't have a job coding. The room smelt like piss and there was a cat on the bed - when I said I was allergic to cats the cat was "shoo"d.

Mostly in Delhi, other places (and Nepal) had a lot less scamming potential. No one scammed me though - the funniest one was the person who told me I need to buy "tourist train tickets".

The thing is India is quite a beautiful country but Israelis typically come there when they don't have a lot of money (after mandatory military service) so they're really cheap and look for the cheapest rooms.
